Best Rehabs In-Network or Accepting Aetna
Memphis, Tennessee

To help minimize your out-of-pocket costs, we rank rehabs fully in-network with Aetna at the top of this list, followed by secondary options that accept Aetna out-of-network. Because coverage varies significantly across HMO, PPO, and Choice plans, you must verify your exact policy details directly with the drug and alcohol treatment center. You may see different Aetna plan names, administrator, or behavioral health vendors depending on your coverage, employer, or state. Aetna is part of CVS Health, and behavioral health benefits are typically managed through Aetna Behavioral Health. Follow the phone number and instructions on your ID card or member portal.

How to Choose a Rehab in Memphis If You Have Aetna

Finding the right treatment can be overwhelming, but your Aetna insurance can make it easier to choose care. Most Aetna plans cover life-saving addiction services.

Note: You may see different Aetna plan names, administrator, or behavioral health vendors depending on your coverage, employer, or state. Aetna is part of CVS Health, and behavioral health benefits are typically managed through Aetna Behavioral Health. Follow the phone number and instructions on your ID card or member portal.

What does your specific Aetna plan cover for addiction treatment?

Most Aetna plans cover addiction treatment, but benefits vary widely. Knowing the type of plan you have will help you narrow your search for the right type of care. Coverage can come through an employer, the ACA marketplace, Medicare Advantage, or Medicaid and most Aetna plans use one of the network types below. Network types determine which providers you can use and if you need a referral for specific services.

Plan Type Out-of-Network-Coverage Is A Referral Required? What Does This Mean for How to Choose Care?
PPO (Preferred Provider Organization) Yes but generally at a higher cost No Offers a lot of flexibility to choose programs outside your area but out-of-network care usually costs more.
HMO (Health Maintenance Organization) No (except for emergencies) Yes You must choose an in-network provider and out-of-network is probably not covered at all.
EPO (Exclusive Provider Organization) No (except for emergencies) No Treatment is only covered if it is in-network and you usually don’t need a referral.
POS (Point of Service) Yes but generally at a higher cost Yes Combines components of HMO and PPO plans. You might need a referral for out-of-network care.

What does Aetna cover for rehab?

Aetna will review your specific care needs and your plan to make insurance coverage decisions like they would for other medical needs, such as a heart condition or diabetes. Because of federal parity law, coverage for addiction treatment cannot be more restrictive than coverage for other medical needs.

With Aetna, coverage varies plan by plan and often state by state. Two people with Aetna may have very different benefits, even for the same treatment program.

Coverage details that often vary include:

  • Deductibles, copays, and coinsurance
  • Note: any plan can have a deductible
  • Prior authorization needs
  • How long treatment is approved for
  • Differences in coverage for levels of care
  • Out-of-pocket maximums that put a cap on how much you pay.

It is also important to determine how your Aetna plan would apply to the facilities you are interested in. If you reach out, a majority of rehabs will verify benefits for you for no cost and they can tell you whether the program is in network, what your potential costs could be, and if there are any limitations on length of stay for treatment.

Learn more about Aetna coverage, costs, and best practices for choosing the right rehab while minimizing out of pocket costs.

How we research treatment facilities

This page brings together facility research completed by the Start Your Recovery research team. Across the site, our team has conducted over 1,000 pre-admissions calls to better understand the patient experience, interviewed facility clinical leaders, performed facility background checks, and compared our information against trusted public data sources.

Our research process begins with data from the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA), accrediting bodies including The Joint Commission and CARF, government licensing agencies, and other trusted sources. From there, our team conducts significant original research, including:

  • Pre-admissions calls: We speak with admissions staff to get a candid picture of patient experience.
  • Background checks: We review complaints from past clients, media reports, actions taken by accrediting bodies, and positive recognition from notable organizations.
  • Clinical interviews: We have in-depth conversations with clinical leadership, often lasting up to one hour, that give us a better understanding of clinical care.
  • Data partnerships: We ingest and analyze exclusive data that provides information about in-network insurance status, cost, and more.

Research varies by facility. Each facility profile shows which research steps we completed and when each step was last performed. Learn more about our research process and background checks.

How we evaluate treatment facilities

These data help us develop a Trust Score for each facility—a simple letter grade that helps you assess how much confidence to place in a facility based on the information available to us. Trust Score considers accreditation, operating history, notable recognition, and concerns identified during our background check. Our Trust Score is an objective rating that is never influenced by advertiser payment. Learn more about our Trust Score methodology.

How we rank our results

The most important factor in our ranking algorithm is the Trust Score. We also consider a facility’s proximity to you, availability status, and profile completeness when determining sort order. When certain filters are selected—or on pages specifically tailored to certain needs—we also heavily weigh a facility’s relevance to your stated needs. Some availability information comes from facilities with which we have a direct relationship, including paid relationships, but payment never affects a facility’s Trust Score. Learn more about how we rank our results.

Why trust Start Your Recovery

Since 2016, Start Your Recovery has worked closely with leading experts in treatment and public health to help more than 3 million people connect to care. We began as a pro-bono public health project and became an independent LLC in 2021. We are not owned or operated by any treatment facility and we have never raised outside capital. Learn more about us.

Important disclaimer

We cannot guarantee the quality of treatment at any facility. We cannot independently confirm the accuracy of every data point, and some information may become outdated or change over time. A Trust Score is a starting point, not a guarantee of treatment quality or outcomes. Please contact us if you would like to update or correct facility information.
