Dual-Diagnosis Care for Adults

Care begins with a comprehensive assessment, including substance use and mental health screening and medical history. Adults can enter residential treatment and step down to partial hospitalization (PHP), intensive outpatient (IOP), and outpatient services as needed. Treatment draws on cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), motivational interviewing, relapse prevention, the Matrix model, and 12-step programs. The center serves clients with trauma histories and those referred from the justice system.

Residential Treatment and MAT Coordination

Residential care provides 24/7 structured living and typically spans 4–6 weeks, with options for shorter or longer stays based on need. For alcohol or opioid use disorder, MRC accepts clients who are using medications for addiction treatment (MAT) prescribed elsewhere and coordinates with outside prescribers. Daily schedules balance individual and group counseling, education on substance use, anger management, and skills practice to reduce triggers and prevent relapse.

Art and Music Therapies

The center emphasizes experiential care alongside evidence-based therapies. Music and art therapy are embedded in programming to help adults process emotions, reduce stress, and practice healthy expression. This can be particularly valuable for clients managing trauma or low mood in early recovery. These therapies offer concrete ways to self-regulate, and to communicate nonverbally. Clients can also access integrated primary care services.

Family and Community Support

Families have the option to participate in weekly counseling and education sessions to help them build a stable support system at home. Self-help meetings, mentoring, peer support, and recovery coaching help clients connect with others who understand the work of recovery. The organization offers interim services when immediate admission isn’t possible, maintaining engagement during wait periods. Overdose education, including naloxone information, is provided to clients and families to promote safety post-discharge.

Aftercare and Accessibility

Discharge plans include continuing care and outcome follow-ups. The center provides transportation assistance to treatment, help obtaining social services, and help finding housing. Employment counseling or training is offered to support re-entry to work. Case management coordinates medical and psychiatric referrals, including collaboration with outside physicians/psychiatrists for dual-diagnosis needs or MAT continuity. A sliding fee scale is offered.
