Cornerstone of Southern California
Overview
Provides a broad range of treatment for substance use and co-occurring mental health conditions, from residential treatment to a partial hospitalization program (PHP) and intensive outpatient program (IOP). Clients work with their case manager to collaborate on treatment plans and can transition between levels of care within the same organization. Those in residential treatment participate in structured daily treatment balanced with outside Alcoholics Anonymous (AA) meetings and recreational outings. Families can visit on the weekends, and clients get one hour of phone time a day after an initial black out period that allows them to adjust to their new environment. Immediate admissions may be possible depending on bed availability. Accepts most major insurance plans and private payment.

Who is this facility a good fit for?
Best fit if: Adults seeking treatment for substance use and co-occurring mental health disorders; who value having input into their treatment plan; interested in transitioning between various levels of care without changing providers; looking for a program with a daily structure; families who want regular communication with family members in treatment.
Not a fit if: Adults seeking on-site withdrawal management (detox); who want unrestricted phone usage from the time of admission; are interested in a more independent or unstructured program.
What to expect
Developing your care plan
- Admission assessment: An admission assessment determines client needs. When necessary, clients complete medically-supervised detox at a nearby partner facility before entering the residential program. Immediate admission may be possible, depending on availability.
- Identifying and treating co-occurring mental health disorders: The program treats substance use alongside underlying mental health conditions. Clinicians can also help diagnose clients who may be showing symptoms of other mental health conditions who have never received a diagnosis to ensure they get care that appropriately addresses their needs.
- A collaborative process: Clients work with their care team to develop treatment plans, and plans change alongside client needs, depending on progress.
Who you will meet with
- Psychiatrist: A psychiatrist may participate in the admission assessment, stabilize clients in early treatment, meet with clients to diagnose co-occurring mental health conditions, or manage medications.
- Individual therapist: Individual therapists meet with clients one-on-one, using research-backed treatments that may include cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), dialectical behavior therapy (DBT), and eye movement desensitization and reprocessing (EMDR).
- Nurses: Nurses on staff may pass medications and offer additional support and care.
- Additional clinical staff: Depending on the level of care, therapists may work with clients in group therapy or family therapy. Other staff members run holistic wellness activities, including mindfulness, exercise, and nutrition education and provide 24/7 support to those in the residential program.
- Case manager: Case management ensures that clients get the support they need when transitioning between levels of care.
Typical schedule
- Residential: Typical schedules vary depending on level of care. Those in the residential program, which focuses on behavioral and medication stabilization, attend group programming from 8:30 a.m. – 4 p.m. every day. Outside AA meetings and recreational activities are also integrated into the schedule.
- Partial hospitalization program: PHP programming runs from 8:30 a.m. – 4 p.m. every day, with clients attending groups. The focus begins shifting to living more independently. Housing is available through the program for those who need it.
- Intensive outpatient program: In IOP, clients attend half-day groups, Monday – Friday. The emphasis here is on transitioning back to daily responsibilities and preparing for work, home life, and long-term recovery.
Living experiences and amenities
- Structured environment: In residential treatment, a structured environment helps reduce outside distractions during early recovery. Staff are available for support 24/7.
- Comfort and wellness: Clients stay in private bedrooms, and healthy, catered meals are provided. Dietary accommodations are available. Wellness activities, including meditation and yoga, are offered on site.
- Family connections: Weekend visitation is permitted, though there is an initial blackout period for visitors (generally for the first few days) so clients can adjust to their environment. Once the blackout period ends, clients get about one hour of daily phone use.
Aftercare
- Transition into lower levels of care: After residential treatment, clients can transition into PHP or IOP. Sober living housing may be available for eligible clients.
- Extended care program (ECP): An extended care program (ECP) focuses on mental health stability, routine building, and continued therapeutic engagement to help prevent relapse and support sustainable recovery while transitioning into independent living.
- Continuing support: Clients can also stay connected through engaging in alumni programs, peer recovery support groups, and ongoing community programs.
Pre-admissions experience
We conducted a series of pre-admissions calls, the most recent on July 2, 2026, to evaluate response time, transparency, and patient experience.
The representative we spoke to was direct, knowledgeable, and low pressure. They provided detailed information about the entire continuum of care, day-to-day schedules, and the specific roles of those on the care team. They were also transparent about cost and payment options as well as the initial communication black out period.
