What to expect
Developing your care plan
- Whole-person approach: The philosophy of the facility focuses on physical, mental, and emotional health. This includes medical treatment and psychiatry, as well as lifestyle considerations such as stress and triggers.
- Client involvement: Recovery paths are largely shaped by clients themselves. This provides a sense of agency. Staff helps clients shape these paths, which are reassessed often to make sure they are working well.
- Optional family participation: Depending on their situation, clients can approve their families to participate in treatment planning. This is completely up to the client.
“Treatment plans are very unique and tailored to their specific needs, diagnoses, and symptoms.” — Sean O'Neill, LMFT, Clinical Director at a District Behavioral Health facility
Who you will meet with
- Doctors, nurses, and psychiatrists: A multidisciplinary medical and clinical team are there to address physical and mental health concerns.
- Therapists: Meet with clients one-on-one once or twice a week, and lead frequent daily group sessions. Licensed Marriage and Family Therapists (LMFTs) provide family and couples therapy when desired.
- Case managers: Assist clients with discharge planning and practical needs.

- Morning routines: From 7:00 a.m. and 12:00 p.m., clients wake up, do chores, have breakfast, participate in morning meditation, then attend group sessions.
- Daily programming: Between 12:00 p.m. and 5:00 p.m., activities include lunch and afternoon groups. On weekdays, clients do homework assignments between 4:00 p.m. and 5:00 p.m.. On weekends, this time is for self-care.
- Evening self-care: The evening schedule runs from 5:00 p.m. until 10:00 p.m. During this time, clients unwind and practice self-care before dinner. At 7:30 p.m., they have personal time and take inventory of their day before bed.
- Family visits: After the first week of treatment is complete, family members can come visit if the client wants them to. Visits have to be arranged in advance with case management.
