Who is this facility a good fit for?
Best fit if: Adults experiencing an acute mental health crisis who need immediate stabilization and 24/7 monitoring; needing more support than outpatient care can provide for moderate to severe mental health conditions that significantly interfere with everyday functioning; looking for support for co-occurring mental health and substance use concerns; preferring a small residential setting; families who wish to remain involved in care.
Not a fit if: Adults looking for outpatient options; seeking a large treatment community; looking for a primarily addiction-focused rehab.
What to expect
Developing your care plan
- Pre-admission: Treatment planning begins before arrival with a pre-admission phone assessment. An admissions representative gathers medical and clinical information about the client. The care team uses this to recommend the best residential location for the client, taking into consideration how well the person may fit into the existing peer group.
- Onboarding and assessment period: During the first 7ā10 days, staff get to know the client, determining which therapy approaches may be useful and adjusting medication. This information helps the team develop a better understanding of the clientās needs and build the care plan.
- Various approaches to treatment: The program focuses on psychiatric stabilization and practical skills intended to help clients function more independently after intensive care. Programming may include individual, group, and family therapy, trauma-informed treatment, and mindfulness and relaxation.
Who you will meet with
- Psychiatrists: Psychiatrists conduct assessments, contribute to care planning, and provide oversight, including managing and adjusting medications.
- Psychiatric nurses: The psychiatric nursing staff provides 24/7 monitoring and support, including dispensing medications, monitoring for changes in a clientās condition, and responding when concerns arise.
- Therapists: Provide therapeutic support through individual and group treatment, including skills work focused on coping, emotional regulation, and problem-solving.
- Case managers: Case managers help coordinate care and arrange family visitation.
- Admissions staff: Guide clients through the intake process and help them through the admissions process.
- Support staff: Support staff provide on-site emotional support and supervision outside of formal treatment, including overnight and on weekends.
Typical schedule
- Morning: Clients wake up early, shower, eat breakfast, and have downtime to prepare for the day. They attend two clinical groups with a break in between and then eat a chef-prepared lunch at noon.
- Afternoon: After lunch, clients attend two more groups, typically with a more holistic focus and aimed at helping them wind down toward the end of the day. At 4 p.m., clients attend an informal house group to review what is going well and what still needs work.
- Evening: Dinner is served at 6 p.m. After eating, clients have the option to have private downtime or participate in social activities with the group. Lights out and quiet time start at 10 p.m.
Living experiences and amenities
- Small residential experience: The air-conditioned facility has an average census of about six clients, with private or shared bedrooms with TVs, chef-prepared meals, and outdoor lounges. Pet-friendly accommodations may be available.
- Recreation: Recreational activities are based in part on what clients want to do. On-site options include movie or game nights, art activities, and karaoke. Clients also attend weekend outings, such as bike rides or trips to the movies.
- Family contact: Family support is strongly encouraged. Rather than a standard visiting window, visitation is coordinated between the client, case manager, and visitor. Clients must consent to and approve the visitor before they arrive.
Aftercare
- Discharge planning as part of treatment: Residential care includes comprehensive discharge and aftercare planning. Staff can help clients identify the next appropriate level of care and make arrangements for other residential facilities, day programs, or outpatient services.
- Preparing for next steps: The facility helps make sure that clients understand the next step in their recovery by scheduling appointments, making sure their prescriptions are ready, and connecting them with support groups and other resources.
