Who is this facility a good fit for?
Best fit if: Adults who need 24/7 residential support for a primary mental health condition and support for co-occurring substance use concerns; prefer a small residential environment; are interested in considerable daily structure; want a combination of clinical treatment and holistic activities; want access to psychiatric and nursing care with therapy; are interested in private room options; and want opportunities to leave the facility for recreational activities.
Not a fit if: Adults who are seeking a large peer community; do not want a structured, group-focused daily schedule; are seeking outpatient only care; strongly prefer a private room; and those in need of a specific substance use treatment level not offered by the facility.
What to expect
Developing your care plan
- Assessment and treatment planning: Prior to admission, clients undergo an assessment by phone that covers medical and clinical needs. The assessment is also used to place the client in the appropriate facility.
- Individualized treatment plan: During the first 7–10 days, clients meet with multiple members of the care team, and adjustments are made to the initial personalized care plan that may include therapeutic and medication changes. A formal treatment plan is established at this time.
Who you will meet with
- Clinical and medical support: A psychiatrist offers psychiatric oversight and supports the client with medication-related care. Nurses are available to provide medical and nursing support during treatment. Therapists and other members of the clinical team lead group therapy and individual therapy. They also help guide the client's treatment.
- Care coordination and 24/7 support: Clients work with the admissions specialist prior to admission and during the intake process. The admissions specialist also helps guide families during this time. Case managers support the client by coordinating ongoing care and practical needs such as visitation. Additional support staff are available around the clock to provide supervision and support outside of regular treatment hours.
Typical schedule
- Structured weekday programming: During the week, mornings begin with breakfast and personal care before programs start at 9 a.m. Clients take part in two clinical or therapeutic groups and then have lunch. The afternoon includes two holistic groups that are intended to support the more clinically focused programming that takes place in the morning. At 4 p.m., residents gather for an informal wrap-up that focuses on progress, wins, and individual goals.
- Evenings and downtime: Dinner takes place at 6 p.m., and afterward, clients can choose to take part in social activities or spend their downtime privately. This less structured approach is intended to give clients the opportunity to connect with other clients or have space to themselves. Activities may include television, journaling, movie nights, games, group art, and karaoke. Quiet hours begin at 10 p.m.
- Therapy and holistic care: Care may include a mix of individual and group therapy in addition to medication management. Therapy may include cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), dialectical behavior therapy (DBT), eye movement desensitization and reprocessing (EMDR), solution-focused therapy, life skills development, anger management, and trauma education. Holistic programs may include yoga, meditation, and sound baths. Medications for addiction treatment (MAT) may also be available.
- Family involvement: Family and couples therapy are available, and families are able to stay involved when determined to be appropriate. Visitation requires the client's consent and advance approval. Visitation is coordinated through the client's case manager.
Living experiences and amenities
- Comfort-focused residential setting: Clients stay in a comfort-focused six-bed residential home with large private or shared bedrooms, connected bathrooms, and common areas. Chef-prepared meals are available, and the home has upscale features such as walk-in closets.
- Weekend activities and recreation: Weekend activities may include outings such as beach trips, movie outings, ceramics or art activities, bike rides along a nearby pier, kayaking, hiking, and additional community activities. A personal trainer visits on-site as well, which provides an additional option for wellness-focused recreation.
Aftercare
- Aftercare planning: Aftercare planning is included in treatment to help clients prepare for continued support after leaving formal residential care. Specific continuing care services should be confirmed directly with the facility.
