A Real-World, Skill-Building Environment

The Asian American Drug Abuse Program’s Therapeutic Community (TC) offers a 3–6 month residential program that blends the therapeutic community model with a chronic disease medical approach. Residents live in a structured, peer-supported setting that mirrors everyday life, creating opportunities to practice new habits and perspectives before returning to their communities. Treatment focuses on values, decision-making, attitude, lifestyle, and self-direction.

Comprehensive and Practical Services

The program combines evidence-based therapies like cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), motivational interviewing, relapse prevention, and trauma-related counseling, with practical support that addresses broader life needs. Residents have access to individual, group, and family counseling, life skills and wellness classes, vocational training, and GED preparation. Additional services include case management, medical and mental health referrals, legal and dental assistance, and targeted classes in nutrition and anger management.

Culturally Responsive and Family-Friendly Care

While open to adults of all backgrounds, the TC provides services in English, Korean, and Spanish, with programming designed to be culturally responsive. Specialized tracks address the needs of women, pregnant or postpartum women, individuals with co-occurring mental health conditions, and those with a history of trauma or domestic violence. Residential beds for clients’ children allow parents to engage in treatment while maintaining family stability.

Support Beyond Treatment

Recovery support extends after residential care through structured aftercare planning, peer mentoring, and recovery coaching. Clients can join self-help groups, participate in recreational and social activities, and connect to housing resources, social services, and employment counseling. These supports help residents maintain the progress made during treatment and strengthen their foundation for long-term recovery.

Accessible, Accredited Care

Operated by a private non-profit and accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities (CARF), the TC accepts Medicaid, Medicare, private insurance, and self-pay, with a sliding fee scale available. Transportation assistance is offered to ensure residents can access care without added barriers.
