Gender-Specific Residential Setting for Teens

The center focuses exclusively on adolescents ages 12–17, offering treatment on separate campuses for boys and girls. This structure helps foster safety and comfort while allowing staff to tailor care to the developmental and emotional needs of each group. Set in a home-like environment, the facility is designed to reduce the institutional feel common in residential programs, helping young clients engage more fully in their recovery.

Integrated Education with Therapeutic Support

At Muir Wood, treatment doesn’t interrupt education. Each campus WASC-accredited school program, staffed by professionals trained to support students navigating both academic and clinical challenges. Teens stay on track with their studies through customized academic plans and transition support, helping reduce educational setbacks and stress related to school reintegration after discharge.

Clinically Grounded, Developmentally Informed Care

The program uses a wide range of evidence-based therapies and trauma-focused therapy to address substance use, mental health concerns, and co-occurring disorders. Psychiatric care, medication management, and psychological assessments are integrated into treatment plans. Physical activities like soccer, basketball, hiking, and other recreational therapy are incorporated to support emotional regulation, teamwork, and social engagement.

Inclusive and Trauma-Responsive Services

Muir Wood is designed to meet the needs of adolescents with complex mental health and substance use challenges, including those with a history of trauma or sexual abuse. The program is LGBTQ+ inclusive and trauma-informed, and accepts clients using medications for addiction treatment (MAT) when prescribed elsewhere. This inclusive approach helps ensure that all clients receive respectful, individualized support.
