What to expect
Developing your care plan
- Detailed evaluations: During admissions, the clinical team gives clients a personalized evaluation to determine their needs and goals. This includes both substance use history and mental health. A treatment plan is created from this information.
- Client involvement: Staff work side by side with clients to make treatment plans that work for them. Ongoing communication is key to the process, and clients are free to voice any changes that they want implemented.
- Reassessment: Clinicians monitor clients’ progress as they move through treatment. With ongoing communication and interaction with therapists, clients can reassess treatment plans often so they can be adjusted.
Who you will meet with
- Doctors and psychiatrists: The medical team is available to help clients both during medically supervised withdrawal management (detox) and throughout residential and outpatient care. The team includes substance-use-trained doctors and psychiatrists.
- Registered Nurses (RNs): On-site 24/7 to attend to clients’ health needs.
- Therapists and counselors: Clinicians who have master’s and doctorate degrees work with clients one-on-one, in groups, and in family settings when clients desire.
Typical schedule
- Five-phase recovery model: Instead of 12-step care, Bayside Marin offers an alternative five-milestone recovery approach. The phases are: Incentive, Awareness, Support, Vigilance, and Preparation. Clients are allowed to move through the phases at their own pace.
- Evidence-based therapies: Clinicians emphasize proven therapies including cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), dialectical behavior therapy (DBT), trauma counseling like eye movement desensitization and reprocessing (EMDR), and relapse prevention.
- Holistic care: Approaches involve meditation, acupuncture, yoga, qigong, and massage therapy. Ecotherapy is also offered, with activities such as gardening and time in nature.
Living experiences and amenities
- Scenic campus with small-group living: The 54-bed campus overlooks the San Francisco Bay or nearby valley, and is divided into six-bed houses. Clients stay in private or shared rooms with private bathrooms.
- Upscale accommodations: Clients have access to a heated swimming pool, sauna, and lush outdoor spaces including a rose garden. An executive chef serves gourmet farm-to-table meals.
- Weekly outings: Every week, clients go on group outings to places like the beach, movies, museums, or salons.
- Flexible technology policy: After a 72-hour “blackout” period, personal electronic devices are allowed between therapy sessions so clients can stay in touch with family, work, and other aspects of their lives.
Aftercare
- Full continuum of care: Bayside Marin’s treatment model allows clients to smoothly transition between care levels, from withdrawal management to residential and outpatient care.
- Alumni program: Along with discharge planning to set clients up for success after treatment, peers can stay connected through alumni support. This includes weekly groups and check-ins from staff.
