Detox and residential care

Withdrawal management (detox) and high-intensity residential treatment are provided within the same program. This allows clients to smoothly transition to residential care once they are stabilized with no interruption in treatment. During the withdrawal management phase, clients receive medical monitoring to make sure they are safe and can be prescribed MAT as needed. After this phase is complete, they can join structured residential programming.

Co-occurring conditions

Clinicians are equipped to address co-occurring mental health conditions at the same time as treating substance use. This can include anxiety, depression, and mood disorders, as well as trauma. When clients start treatment, staff provide a detailed assessment that is used to adapt care to each person’s needs. Individual and group counseling can address addiction issues as well as help give clients the tools to manage mental health conditions.

Medication options

Medications for addiction treatment (MAT) can be integrated with counseling and education to support recovery when appropriate. These include medications for opioid use disorder (MOUD) and medications for alcohol use disorder (MAUD). These medications can help clients safely withdraw from substances and maintain recovery over time.

Treatment continuum

The center is connected to a larger treatment network with step-down recovery options. Gaudenzia is a nonprofit organization that provides care for substance use and co-occurring mental health conditions across Pennsylvania and several other states. Once clients finish residential treatment, they can step down to outpatient programs at a nearby location. Staff can help facilitate these transitions. Graduates of Gaudenzia’s programs can also be part of the alumni association, which provides connections to peers and opportunities to get involved in the community.

Client reviews

Many clients credit the program with helping their recovery and describe staff as caring and encouraging. A smaller share of reviewers note issues with withdrawal-related care, staff interactions, or discharge procedures.

  • Treatment quality & outcomes (60% positive): Several former clients say Common Ground helped them make meaningful changes or gave them useful recovery tools. A few raise concerns about treatment experiences. “They will provide you with the tools you need.”
  • Staff & care experience (65% positive): Reviewers frequently describe team members as accepting and personally invested in clients. A few reviewers report negative staff interactions. “Honest, caring people who actually cared about me.”

Commission on Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities

How we research treatment facilities

Across the site, our team has conducted over 1,000 pre-admissions calls to better understand the patient experience, interviewed facility clinical leaders, performed facility background checks, and compared our information against trusted public data sources.

Our research process begins with data from the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA), accrediting bodies including The Joint Commission and CARF, government licensing agencies, and other trusted sources. From there, our team conducts significant original research, including:

- Pre-admissions calls: We speak with admissions staff to get a candid picture of patient experience.

- Background checks: We review complaints from past clients, media reports, actions taken by accrediting bodies, and positive recognition from notable organizations.

- Clinical interviews: We have in-depth conversations with clinical leadership, often lasting up to one hour, that give us a better understanding of clinical care.

- Data partnerships: We ingest and analyze exclusive data that provides information about in-network insurance status, cost, and more.

Research varies by facility. Each facility profile shows which research steps we completed and when each step was last performed. Learn more about our research process and background checks.

How we evaluate treatment facilities

These data help us develop a Trust Score for each facility—a simple letter grade that helps you assess how much confidence to place in a facility based on the information available to us. Trust Score considers accreditation, operating history, notable recognition, and concerns identified during our background check. Our Trust Score is an objective rating that is never influenced by advertiser payment. Learn more about our Trust Score methodology.

A Trust Score is a starting point, not a guarantee of treatment quality or outcomes. Please contact us if you would like to update or correct facility information.
