Who is this facility a good fit for?
- Best fit if: Seeking substance use and co-occurring mental health treatment with step-down options; looking for a private environment with luxurious amenities; using private insurance.
- Not a fit if: Requiring acute hospital-level care for medical or psychiatric concerns; not interested in intensive daily programming; needing Medicaid/state-funded coverage.
What to expect
Beyond general standards, the facility places unique emphasis on:
Treatment planning and reassessment
- First 72 hours: Focus is on medical stabilization. Staff perform assessments, ensure clients get the right medications, and make them as comfortable as possible during withdrawal management.
- Care adapted to individual needs: Treatment plans are tailored to clients’ needs, goals, and personal situation. The facility’s core team meets every morning to discuss clients and adjust plans as needed.
- Balancing outside responsibilities: The program works with clients on external obligations. If someone needs 30 minutes to check work emails or attend an online class, they coordinate with case managers to make that happen.
"It's one thing to provide evidence-based treatment… and that's what we do. But beyond that, we're really looking at the individual who's coming in... how can we specifically address those issues more than a carbon copy of each person getting treatment." — Dr. Alison Tarlow, Psy.D, Chief Clinical Officer”
Who you will meet with
- Medical doctors and nurses: Available around the clock for 24/7 medical care and medication management.
- Trained therapists: A primary therapist who manages a small caseload of about eight clients to support a personalized relationship, along with master’s-level clinicians who run daily groups.
- Case managers: Clients work directly with a case manager who helps handle non-clinical needs such as FMLA leave. Phones are restricted, but clients with outside obligations (work email, online school) may receive scheduled, supervised laptop access.
- Alumni and client care coordinators: Dedicated staff members whose sole role is maintaining long-term connection after clients leave.
“You have this personalized relationship with your caseload therapist who you really get to know, and they get to know you. In addition to having groups with that therapist, you're also having groups with the other therapists and group facilitators — so you're getting a nice, well-rounded experience, while also working hand in hand with a case manager.” — Dr. Alison Tarlow, Psy.D, Chief Clinical Officer
Typical schedule
- Full-day focus: Programming runs from 9:00 am to 8:00 pm and includes frequent groups, daily individual therapy, and intensive therapeutic sessions twice per week.
- Daily holistic care: In addition to evidence-based therapy, activities include yoga, mindfulness, nutritional counseling, art, and music therapy.
- Evening groups: 12-step (AA/NA) speakers and community groups host meetings, connect with clients, and provide ongoing support.
Living experiences and amenities
- Relaxation and recreation: Clients can unwind in shared lounges and outdoor spaces and they have access to a media room and fitness center.
- Culinary program: Private, in-house chefs prepare fresh meals daily.
- Movie theater: Clients can take advantage of the in-house movie theater for evening showings.
Aftercare
- Transition planning: The facility helps clients move to the next level of care. If someone needs to return home right away, Boca Recovery Center identifies local providers in their zip code for continued support.
- Alumni support: The facility hosts weekly Zoom alumni groups and maintains private social media pages where former clients can stay connected and support one another.
Verified Interview with Director
Interview conducted with Boca Recovery Center Chief Clinical Officer on February 17, 2026 by Start Your Recovery Director of Content, Molly McSweyn.
We interviewed Dr. Alison Tarlow, Psy.D, Chief Clinical Officer at Boca Recovery Center, to better understand how care is structured and who the program is a best fit for. During the conversation, Dr. Tarlow was direct, helpful, and easy to speak with. She detailed the compassionate, personalized nature of the program, emphasizing that care is not a one-size-fits-all approach. “The opposite of addiction is connection. We are building a bridge between the person you were and the person you are becoming." — Dr. Alison Tarlow, Psy.D, Chief Clinical Officer
Dr. Tarlow was clear about the program’s strong clinical oversight, focus on aftercare and next-steps planning, and the importance of interpersonal connections to long-lasting recovery.
