Men-Only Setting with Strong Peer Community
The program is designed solely for adult men, with group topics centered around men’s gender-specific experiences and challenges with addiction and recovery. This can be well-suited to men who don’t feel as comfortable sharing in a mixed-gender environment and want to heal alongside other men. Peer support and mutual accountability are emphasized in residential care. Men participate in about six hours of group therapy, working together for both individual and mutual benefit.
Faith-Based Recovery Option
A Christian-centered recovery track is offered for men who want to involve their faith in their healing path. This runs alongside regular 12-step and evidence-based programming as an additional complement to the entire experience. The Christian program involves Bible study, spiritual lectures, and faith-based education sessions. This pathway is fully optional, so men can choose what fits with their beliefs and values.
Evidence-Based Therapies, Mental Health, and 12-Step Foundation
In both individual and group sessions, therapists and counselors use evidence-based therapies including cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), dialectical behavior therapy (DBT), motivational interviewing, and relapse prevention counseling. Specialized therapy is also offered for men with backgrounds involving trauma, and those who have co-occurring mental health conditions. Twelve-step work is foundational to the program’s approach. This includes peer recovery meetings including Alcoholics Anonymous (AA) and Narcotics Anonymous (NA), along with education on 12-step principles.
Smooth Step-Down Transitions
Men can move seamlessly from withdrawal management (detox) to residential care at the same location without disrupting their treatment plans. Once men are ready, they can step down to a partial hospitalization program (PHP). In this care level, men participate in all-day programming at the center while returning home or to sober housing in the evenings. White Deer Run also has intensive outpatient programs (IOP) at nearby locations.
Long-Term Aftercare
From the beginning of treatment, staff collaborate with men to make discharge plans adapted to their needs. Depending on each client’s specific situation, these can include setting up stable housing, help with navigating social services, and referrals to outside counseling and mental health support.
