Who is this facility a good fit for?
Best fit if: Adults seeking treatment in a peaceful, nature-focused environment; people with substance use and co-occurring mental health conditions; who benefit from structured daily programming and community-based recovery; seeking a full continuum of care; families interested in active participation during treatment; looking for a comfortable residential setting with wellness and recreational amenities.
Not a fit if: Adults seeking detox services on the same campus; individuals who prefer highly independent treatment with limited group participation; looking for a large urban treatment setting with easy access to city activities; seeking primarily individual therapy rather than a community-focused recovery model with significant group involvement.
What to expect
Developing your care plan
Individualized treatment planning: Plans are developed upon learning a client's medical, psychiatric, trauma, and recovery histories, and previous treatment experiences, as well as determining current goals and challenges.
Ongoing assessment and adjustment: As a client progresses through recovery, treatment evolves with them, with the multidisciplinary care team contributing to treatment planning throughout their stay.
"If you need to feel like you're supported from the second that you walk in the building, then this is definitely a place for you." — Mariajose "MJ" Lozada-Oliva, executive director of Northeast Recovery
Who you will meet with
- Medical support: Clients have access to 24-hour nursing support, with nurse practitioners available regularly to quickly help with medication needs and adjustments. Clients will additionally work with a primary clinician during their stay.
- Family support team: A dedicated family liaison helps to coordinate communication, visitation, zoom sessions, and connect a client's loved ones to family resources.
- Therapists: In addition to a primary therapist the client works with on an individual basis, they will also work with therapists facilitating group activities.
- Aftercare support: Alumni support representatives and a case manager may be involved to help a client transition to the next stages of treatment and prepare for life after recovery.
“Something that has been really important for our facility is that the staff are just very caring…you can tell that it's something that affects a staff member on a day-to-day basis. They come in because they love the work that they do, which really impacts patient care significantly.” — Mariajose "MJ" Lozada-Oliva, executive director of Northeast Recovery
Typical schedule
- Therapeutic programming: Daily schedules vary by client but may include group therapy, individual therapy, peer recovery groups, case management meetings, aftercare planning, psychoeducation, and recovery-focused discussions. Support groups, both traditional 12-step and non-12-step are available, including specialized groups for young adults, individuals with co-occurring disorders, and first responders.
- Wellness and recreation: Clients may also take part in fitness activities, outdoor recreation, art-based activities, yoga, mindfulness practices, and community events with guest speakers.
- Family participation: Loved ones have the opportunity to participate in family therapy, with a five-week psychoeducation series available via Zoom and communication skills training. Visitation usually begins after the first week, and scheduled visitation can be arranged with therapists or a family liaison.
Living experiences and amenities
- Living arrangements: Clients stay in gender-separated, semi-private rooms. Roommates are chosen for individuals based on age, personality, interests, and preferences. Private rooms may be available but are determined by staff.
- Campus environment: The facility is located on a 70-acre wooded property with walking trails, gardens, and outdoor gathering spaces. Additionally, clients have 24/7 access to a full gym. A recreation room is also on site.
- Planned activities: Social and recreational activities are a part of the residential experience and may include Friday night bonfires with s'mores, movie nights, board games, ping pong, art activities, and music.
Aftercare
- Step-down care: Clients in need of detox, PHP, IOP, standard outpatient care, or sober living can access these services through the same organization at nearby locations.
- Ongoing recovery support: Dedicated aftercare coordinators assist clients in discharge planning, alumni involvement, and support meetings in addition to the ability to maintain connection to counselors and recovery resources.
“We are very lucky to have an alumni team who brings former patients in who have maybe six months to a year sober, even 90 days just to speak with other patients so they can really see that it is possible to get treatment here and you're able to recover....” — Mariajose "MJ" Lozada-Oliva, executive director of Northeast Recovery
