Integrated Care in a Community Setting

Avenues Recovery Center at Eastern Shore offers adults a 60-day residential treatment experience in a tranquil, rural part of Maryland. The program includes on-site medical detox, residential care, and outpatient step-down options, each tailored to help clients regain stability while building life skills that extend beyond treatment. Set on over 7 acres, the facility includes 104 beds in private and shared rooms, all with air conditioning and TVs. Campus amenities include a fitness center, chef-prepared meals, and access to outdoor activities. Clients follow a structured daily schedule of therapy, group sessions, and experiential outings like gardening or hiking, supporting both emotional and physical recovery in a calm, residential atmosphere.

12-step Foundation and Family Involvement

Programs feature onsite 12-step meetings including Alcoholics Anonymous (AA) and Narcotics Anonymous (NA), strong peer support, mentorship, and an emphasis on mutual accountability. Family participation and connection are woven into care plans. Loved ones are encouraged to join clients in family and couples counseling sessions. During inpatient treatment, clients can talk to their loved ones as often as needed with the approval of their personal counselor.

Comprehensive Aftercare Planning

From the beginning of treatment, the staff creates aftercare plans adapted to each client’s needs. These include finding a primary care doctor and therapist, connection with local 12-step and other community support groups, and help securing housing as needed. Employment guidance is also provided, including assistance with resumes, applications, and preparation for reentering the workforce.

Thriving Alumni Community

After discharge, clients are encouraged to become part of an active alumni network. This offers a way to form lasting friendships and find mutual support. Alumni organize frequent events and recreational outings and participate in weekly group meetings, either in person or online. An online network where members can chat with each other is also available. Counselors regularly check in on clients’ progress to see how they are doing and provide additional guidance.

Client Reviews

Reviews describe a program where clients feel genuinely cared for and supported by staff, many of whom share lived experience in recovery. Group therapy, trauma-informed care, and case management are frequently noted as strengths. The alumni program and sense of ongoing community are major differentiators, with clients citing continued outreach, activities, and connection post-treatment. While a few noted initial adjustment challenges, most describe lasting personal growth and a renewed sense of purpose.
