Who is this facility a good fit for?
Best fit if: Adults seeking withdrawal management followed by residential treatment within the same facility; needing support for substance use disorders alongside co-occurring mental health concerns; needing residential treatment for addiction and also managing medical needs; looking for a program with daily structured programming alongside experiential and wellness activities.
Not a fit if: Adults wanting frequent visitation immediately after admission; prefer an entirely self-directed recovery approach; not willing to participate in clinical therapy.
What to expect
Developing your care plan
- Pre-assessment: Before clients arrive, admissions staff conduct a detailed pre-assessment that covers their history and needs.
- Clinical assessment: The next step is a clinical assessment. A clinician conducts an assessment that includes medical, mental health, family, and substance use histories to help determine the appropriate treatment approach for the client’s care.
- Evolving treatment plans: While long-term goals are considered from the beginning, plans can change as clients move through treatment.
Who you will meet with
- Individual therapists: Clients meet with individual therapists for one-on-one sessions.
- Case managers: Case managers help clients work toward treatment goals, manage discharge planning, and set up transitions to continuing care when needed.
- Medical director: The medical director oversees the facility’s clinical and medical protocols.
- Nursing staff: Registered nurses and nurse practitioners support clients throughout withdrawal management and ongoing treatment.
- Peer recovery: Peer support leaders facilitate evening groups.
Typical schedule
- Mornings: Mornings typically begin with a 5:30 or 6 a.m. wake-up followed by time in the courtyard or gym. Breakfast and medication passes are usually around 7:30 a.m., followed by a morning meeting at 7:45 a.m. and groups from 8 a.m. until noon.
- Afternoons: Lunch is generally served between noon and 1 p.m., followed by afternoon groups that center largely on cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) and dialectical behavior therapy (DBT). Clients may also meet with case managers and individual therapists or participate in wellness and experiential activities during this time.
- Evenings: Dinner is typically from 5 to 6 p.m. Clients can have quiet time in the evening or participate in music activities, peer-led support groups, or workouts in the gym. Lights out is at 11 p.m.
- Weekends: After the initial 5-day centering period, clients may go on weekend outings, like trips to the movies, or participate in other recreational activities.
Living experiences and amenities
- Shared space: Most clients share a room with one other person, though private rooms are available for an additional daily fee. There are many common areas as well, including a fitness center, outdoor spaces, a reading area, walking paths, laundry facilities, and relaxation areas. The facility uses plant life, natural light, and organic elements as decor throughout.
- Dining: Vegetarian, vegan, and gluten-free diets are available from the cafe.
- Family involvement: Families can participate in family therapy and structured programming. After the first few weeks, case management and nursing staff can arrange in-person visitation.
Aftercare
- Discharge planning: Discharge planning can include relapse-prevention strategies, emergency planning, online follow-up sessions, and access to an aftercare app. Staff can also help clients plan their next level of care.
- Alumni programming: Alpas Wellness offers education, workshops, and volunteer opportunities for alumni. Long-term 12-Step support is also available.
