Full Continuum of Care in One Place

Stella Maris – Madden Center has served Cleveland since 1948 as the city’s oldest addiction treatment provider and one of its only stand-alone detox centers. A nonprofit rooted in community, the center offers detox, residential, partial hospitalization (PHP), intensive outpatient (IOP), and recovery management, all on one block, allowing adults to progress smoothly without transferring to outside facilities.

Medically Supported Detox and Residential Treatment

The withdrawal management unit provides 24/7 medical care, medication support, and counseling for people withdrawing from alcohol, opioids, or sedatives, with discharge planning beginning at admission. Residential services are trauma-informed and designed for individuals with significant substance use and co-occurring needs. Daily care blends group therapy, psychiatric services, case management, and medical support, with typical stays lasting 28–45 days.

Flexible Outpatient and Step-Down Programs

Outpatient options let people continue recovery while maintaining daily responsibilities. PHP provides full-day, structured treatment with psychiatric and nursing support, while IOP offers several therapy sessions per week. Both programs use evidence-based approaches such as cognitive behavioral therapy, motivational interviewing, and relapse prevention, with education on anxiety, communication, and post-acute withdrawal. Medications for addiction treatment (MAT) with naltrexone are available to eligible clients.

Housing, Wraparound Services, and Community Connection

Supportive housing near campus offers nearly 60 sober beds with 24/7 staff and peer accountability, plus links to community recovery housing. Wraparound services include family therapy, psychiatric and primary care, transportation assistance, and specialized tracks for veterans, trauma survivors, and people referred through the justice system. Clients also have access to art, music, and equine therapy, workforce training with culinary workshops, and a sober coffee shop that hosts recovery meetings. Alumni programming provides lasting peer connection long after treatment ends.
