Who is this facility a good fit for?

  • Best fit if: Adults looking for a full continuum of substance use treatment in one location; have co-occurring mental health needs; require on-site detox; open to clinical therapy and 12-Step work; want employment training or counseling; need to stay in touch with family or work; have private insurance or plan to self-pay.

  • Not a fit if: Those who need acute, hospital-level care; looking for a luxury, retreat-like setting; want a non-12-Step treatment approach; have Medicaid, Medicare, or are uninsured and unable to self-pay.

What to expect

Typical schedule

  • Detox: For those who need it, the first 5-7 days of treatment are focused on medical withdrawal management. Clients receive 24/7 medical monitoring, chef-prepared meals, and plenty of time to rest.
  • Daily groups: Group therapy sessions are held Monday-Friday, starting in the morning and ending 3-4 p.m. Topics involve substance use and mental health issues.
  • Creativity and fitness: Outside of therapy sessions, clients can participate in yoga and music therapy. They also have access to a gym.
  • Evenings: Once therapy sessions are over for the day, clients have free time to unwind and reflect. A one-hour recovery meeting is held around 5-7 p.m. Afterward, clients have additional free time.
  • Sundays: On Sundays, staff take clients on community outings like movies, bowling, or restaurant meals. Clients have the option to attend church if they desire.

Who you will meet with

  • Therapists: A dedicated primary therapist guides clients through weekly one-on-one sessions. Therapists also lead daily groups.
  • Medical team: Doctors and nurses attend to clients during withdrawal management (detox), and are there to help with health needs throughout treatment.
  • Case manager: Clients are assigned a case manager who can help coordinate appointments, communicate with employers when needed, and start the discharge process early so clients have a long-term plan.
  • Psychiatrist: Work with clients who have co-occurring mental health conditions.

Living experiences and amenities

  • Shared environment: Most rooms are shared with one other roommate. A private room is available for an additional fee. The facility accepts a maximum of 40 people, though there are typically around 25 clients in residential care at once.
  • Tech policy: During the detox phase, personal phones and laptops are not allowed. Afterward, clients can use their cell phones and laptops during certain times. Clients who need to keep up with work can make arrangements to do so.
  • Visitation: Loved ones can visit clients on Saturdays 12-2 p.m. If approved by the care team, visitors can take clients outside of the facility during visitation hours.

Aftercare

  • Full continuum of care: Recovery Institute of Ohio offers withdrawal management, residential treatment, a partial hospitalization program (PHP), and an intensive outpatient program (IOP). Clients can move between care levels as their needs progress without interruption.
  • Support services: Before treatment ends, clients can be connected to housing resources, assistance navigating social services, self-help groups, peer mentorship, employment training, and recovery coaching.
