A Women-Only Residential Program With Room for Children

Courage House provides long-term, 24-hour residential treatment for adult women with alcohol or other drug dependence. Services allow for children to live with their parent while in the program, and include child-friendly residential accommodations. This setup can help caregivers stay engaged in treatment while keeping the family unit intact.

Phased Programming Guided by Assessment

The program is organized into phases that offer successive levels of programming. Each resident is placed into a phase based on substance use and mental health assessments and referral recommendations, with length of stay based on individual needs. Courage House accepts self-referrals as well as referrals from social service organizations, treatment professionals, and the criminal justice system, with priority given to residents of Licking and Knox Counties.

Evidence-Based Counseling and Medications Support

Residents have access to substance use disorder counseling alongside individual, group, and family counseling. Treatment approaches include cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), motivational interviewing, contingency management, community reinforcement plus vouchers, and relapse prevention. Courage House supports medications for addiction treatment (MAT), including buprenorphine and naltrexone, and accepts residents who use MAT prescribed elsewhere. Screening and testing services include alcohol and drug testing, plus screening for tobacco use, substance use, and mental disorders.

Wraparound Services for Stability After Discharge

Care combines residential treatment with practical support that can matter after a return to daily life, including case management, help accessing social services, housing services, and employment counseling or training. Discharge planning includes overdose education and naloxone training, outcome follow-up after discharge, and at least 12 weeks of aftercare group sessions after successful completion. The home offers on-site meals, outdoor time is supported by nearby parks, and smoking and vaping are permitted in designated areas.
