Residential Treatment Designed for Mothers

The women-only, 24/7 residential substance use treatment setting is created specifically for mothers, including pregnant and postpartum women. Mothers are welcomed whether their children are currently with them, staying with family or friends, or involved with the child welfare system. Children can live on-site with their mothers, with residential beds for clients’ children and child care available — support that can make it easier to stay engaged in treatment while continuing a parenting role.

Family-Centered Support in a Small, Home-Like Setting

Tule House is a small, non-medical residential program that emphasizes a cooperative living environment and shared day-to-day support among women. The setting is peaceful and close to nature, near Upper Lake’s historic Main Street and a local park. Treatment also includes involvement of a mother’s self-identified family members when appropriate, reinforcing family connection as part of the recovery process.

Therapy, Trauma-Informed Care, and Skill Building

Services include group and individual counseling, with evidence-based approaches such as cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), motivational interviewing (MI), the Matrix Model/Matrix relapse prevention, relapse prevention, 12-step work, substance use disorder counseling, and trauma-related counseling. The program offers comprehensive substance use assessment, screening, community outreach, and interim services. Daily life in residence can include recovery-focused group work and practical skill-building, including parenting and life-skills exercises.

Planning for Next Steps and Ongoing Support

Support extends beyond the residential stay with discharge planning, aftercare/continuing care, and outcome follow-up after discharge. The program offers naloxone and overdose education, mentoring/peer support, and assistance with obtaining social services when needed. Health education and counseling supports include HIV/AIDS education, counseling, or support, hepatitis education, counseling, or support, and other education topics. Transportation assistance is available, and sign language services are offered for people who are deaf or hard of hearing. Smoking and vaping are permitted in designated areas. For people using medications for addiction treatment (MAT), the program accepts clients whose medications are prescribed elsewhere.
