Community-Focused Residential Recovery

Located in Eureka on California’s scenic North Coast, Humboldt Recovery Center is the region’s oldest and largest residential treatment program. Established in 1972, this nonprofit operates seven gender-specific, home-like residences in safe neighborhood settings. Its therapeutic community model emphasizes peer accountability, self-help, and shared responsibility, offering a structured yet compassionate environment where residents support one another in meaningful, lasting recovery.

Evidence-Based and Individualized Care

Treatment is grounded in cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) and other evidence-based approaches, including motivational interviewing, trauma-informed counseling, and relapse prevention. Medications for addiction treatment (MAT), such as buprenorphine, are used under supervision when appropriate. Residents progress through a structured, phase-based recovery model that builds self-awareness, responsibility, and independence, preparing them to reintegrate into work, education, and family life with confidence and stability.

Whole-Person Wellness and Skill Building

The program extends beyond therapy to strengthen wellness and life skills essential to recovery. Clients participate in yoga, nutrition education, and fitness activities that encourage physical and emotional balance. Vocational training, educational assistance, and employment readiness programs equip residents to build financial and personal stability. This whole-person model helps individuals develop practical tools for sustained recovery and self-sufficiency.

Lifelong Connection and Aftercare Support

Upon completing residential care, graduates are invited to join the Alumni Association, which offers nine months of free aftercare including group counseling, sober social events, and mentorship. This strong peer network reinforces relapse prevention and community belonging long after formal treatment ends. Guided by compassion and respect, Humboldt Recovery Center helps individuals create purposeful, substance-free lives rooted in dignity, connection, and growth.
