Key Healthcare
Overview
Trauma-informed residential mental health and substance use care for teens with family therapy, academic guidance, and life skills education. Adolescents ages 13 to 17 stay in an upscale, home-like setting and receive 24/7 support. Stays usually last between 45 to 60 days, but can be adjusted based on individual needs and progress. The program is designed to help teens cope with issues like complex trauma, emotional dysregulation, attachment wounds, or self-harm. Families receive frequent updates and hands-on guidance. Evidence-based therapies are combined with surfing, hiking, and music therapy. Affirming clinicians provide counseling for LGBTQIA+ teens. Key Healthcare accepts private insurance and self-pay.

Residential Treatment Designed for Teens
The program is engineered to fit teens’ age-specific and developmental needs. Evidence-based therapies, including cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) and dialectical behavior therapy (DBT), are adapted specially for the adolescent life stage. Clients recover alongside peers who can share their life experiences, allowing for mutual healing and support. Both mental health concerns and substance use can be addressed at the same time, as well as self esteem issues, social anxiety, and family difficulties.
Continuous Academic Support
Care staff work to ensure that teens don’t fall behind in school while receiving the care they need. While in residential treatment, teens receive instruction through Mission Academy School’s teachers and tutors. Lessons are coordinated with teens’ home schools and take personal education goals into account. Families are kept continuously updated to make sure that all are held accountable and teens stay on the right track.
Structured Daily Routines
Teens participate in a regular, predictable daily schedule, so they can get used to building healthy routines and learning accountability. Peers eat meals together and participate in group therapy, life skills education, and reflection sessions. Medication management and regular check-ins with a psychiatrist are available for those who need them, depending on individual treatment plans.
Experiential and Outdoor Therapies
For teens who could benefit from creativity, movement, and outdoor experiences, the program offers surf therapy, hiking, and recreational therapy. Art and music therapy are also available. All of these approaches complement traditional therapies and are designed to help teens manage stress, build confidence, and develop greater emotional regulation.
Focus on Family Participation
Key Healthcare emphasizes family involvement and active communication with parents and guardians as teens progress through treatments. This includes clinical updates on a consistent basis. Family therapy is a key part of treatment. Both parents and siblings can participate in education sessions on topics including communication, building trust, and setting healthy boundaries.
