Key Healthcare
Overview
Family-focused residential mental health and substance use care for teens with academic guidance and trauma support in a home-like environment. Adolescents ages 13 to 17 stay in upscale accommodations and receive treatment for conditions including depression, anxiety, PTSD, and self-harm. Residential stays are flexible in length and can be adjusted to fit individual progress and goals. Family therapy is a cornerstone of the program, aiming to help loved ones improve relational dynamics, communication, and healthy boundaries. Clinicians are trained to provide LGBTQIA+ affirming counseling. Evidence-based approaches are interwoven with hiking, surfing, art, and music therapy. Key Healthcare accepts private insurance and self-pay.

Teen-Centered Residential Care
The program is made solely for teens, allowing each person to heal alongside peers who can more closely relate to their life experiences. Evidence-based therapies are adapted for adolescents’ specific needs. These include cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), dialectical behavior therapy (DBT), trauma counseling, and motivational interviewing. Teens who require treatment for co-occurring substance use can get it at the same time as addressing their mental health.
Integrated Academic Support
While in residential care, teens start the day with three hours of educational instruction by teachers and tutors from the associated Mission Academy School. Lessons can be made to fit teens’ individual education goals and are coordinated with home schools to make sure teens don’t fall behind while receiving care. Families receive regular updates to make sure everyone is on the same page.
Experiential Therapies and Life Skills
Along with evidence-based approaches, teens can join therapeutic outdoor activities such as hiking and surfing. Various other types of recreational therapy, as well as art and music therapy, are also offered. Building life skills is another essential component of Key Healthcare Malibu’s program. Staff guide teens through healthy ways to express emotions, methods of reducing stress, and pathways to building self esteem.
Family Participation
Staff communicate frequently with parents and guardians and provide active guidance while teens are in treatment. This includes consistent clinical updates and planning for teens’ return home. Family therapy is seen as a crucial part of treatment. Both parents and siblings can participate in education on topics including communication, trust, and setting boundaries.
