A Small, Mountain-Based Residential Setting

Turning Point of Arnold is a residential substance use treatment center located in the Sierra mountains of California. The program is intentionally small, using shared bedrooms and common spaces to create a community-style, home-like environment. This setting can appeal to people who prefer fewer distractions, more consistency, and a calmer pace while they focus on recovery.

Structured Residential Care With Everyday Focus

Adults can enroll in 30-, 60-, or 90-day residential stays with 24/7 supervision. Treatment includes individual counseling, group counseling, and education about substance use disorders and recovery. Therapy approaches include cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), motivational interviewing, the Matrix Model, contingency management/motivational incentives, relapse prevention, anger management, and trauma-related counseling. The program provides access to 12-step meetings and sponsorship as part of the weekly structure.

Experiential Outdoor Therapy Integrated Into Treatment

A defining element of the program is experiential, outdoor-based therapy. The surrounding mountains, trails, and nearby lakes are used as part of treatment, with activities such as hiking and kayaking. The facility uses this time outdoors as a way to step away from daily distractions, reduce stress, and practice coping skills in a real-world setting.

Family Involvement and Ongoing Support

Family participation is supported through weekly family days, which may include family therapy and shared recreational activities. Discharge planning and continuing care are emphasized, with services that include aftercare planning, outcome follow-up after discharge, and naloxone and overdose education.

Transitional Living and Work Readiness

For clients who want added support after completing residential treatment, optional step-down care is available through Crossroads Transitional Living. This transitional living option is designed to help people practice independent living skills in a sober environment while gradually returning to work and rebuilding daily routines. Support may include job readiness training, resume and interview preparation, job ethics education, money management, and help connecting to housing, employment, and other recovery supports.
