Crisis Care in a Safe, Supervised Setting

Gaston Crisis and Recovery Center offers short-term residential care for adults in mental health or substance-use-related crises. Open 24/7, the program provides a safe, semi-private environment where clients can stabilize under the care of psychiatrists, licensed counselors, and support staff. The average length of stay is 7 to 14 days, designed to relieve immediate distress and lay the groundwork for next steps in recovery.

Detox and Medications for Addiction Treatment

The center provides medical detox for alcohol, benzodiazepines, opioids, cocaine, and methamphetamines. When needed, medications such as buprenorphine, naltrexone, disulfiram, or clonidine/lofexidine are used to ease withdrawal and reduce cravings. The program also accepts clients continuing medications for addiction treatment (MAT) prescribed elsewhere, ensuring continuity of care during crisis stabilization.

Therapies for Complex and Co-Occurring Needs

Treatment includes evidence-based therapies such as cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), motivational interviewing, trauma counseling, relapse prevention, and twelve-step facilitation. Clients can participate in individual, group, and family sessions, with telehealth available when appropriate. The program is designed to support diverse adult populations, including veterans, pregnant or postpartum women, older adults, and people with co-occurring mental health conditions.

Transition Planning and Real-World Supports

From admission onward, staff focus on discharge planning and aftercare connections to help sustain recovery. Support may include peer mentoring, housing assistance, social services navigation, and employment counseling or training. Health education, tobacco cessation, and naloxone/overdose education are also offered. Additional services include case management, transportation assistance, and sign language access. Smoking and vaping are not permitted.
