Long-Term Men’s Residential Program

The program is designed for adult men who need structured treatment without stepping away from their daily responsibilities. Clients must work, attend school, or volunteer at least 32 hours each week, which keeps treatment connected to real-life routines rather than separating clients from them. Evenings and weekends are dedicated to clinical programming on the historic Ohlhoff campus, where clients live for three to six months.

Peer Guidance and a 12-Step Approach

The program follows a social model that relies on peer accountability and shared responsibility. Clients live together and support one another through everyday stress, job challenges, and early recovery milestones. This peer-monitored environment reinforces consistency, especially for clients who benefit from routine and community structure. Regular 12-step participation is woven into the weekly schedule, with on-site meetings available throughout the program. This predictable structure offers both community and clear expectations.

Weekly Counseling, Recovery Education, and Vocational Assistance

Each client works with a primary counselor in weekly one-on-one sessions to address personal goals, patterns, and challenges. Two additional counselor-facilitated peer groups help clients practice communication, accountability, and problem-solving in real time. Educational groups cover substance use, relapse prevention strategies, and topics relevant to daily life. Vocational assistance supports clients in navigating work-related issues.

Community Involvement and a Spiritual Retreat

Clients take part in local community service throughout the program, offering a chance to rebuild purpose and re-engage with the broader San Francisco community. This service component helps strengthen confidence, build healthy routines, and reinforce accountability outside the treatment setting. A highlight of the program is a weekend spiritual retreat in Sonoma County. While not tied to a specific faith, the retreat offers dedicated time away for reflection, group connection, and personal grounding.

Lifetime Aftercare and Long-Term Support

Discharge planning begins early so clients leave with clear next steps. Once the residential phase ends, clients have lifetime access to aftercare groups, on-site 12-step meetings, and alumni events hosted on the Ohlhoff campus. This long-term support network helps men stay connected as they navigate life after treatment.
