Who is this facility a good fit for?

  • Best fit if: Adults who want private, small, upscale residential treatment; are seeking treatment for addiction with co-occurring mental health concerns or primary mental health conditions; desire privacy and discretion; may benefit from a mixed-age community; want a highly structured day; and are interested in clinical treatment and experiential or wellness programming.
  • Not a fit if: Adults who want a large peer community and desire lightly scheduled programming.

What to expect

Developing your care plan

  • Assessment and planning: Prior to admission, a clinician conducts a telephone assessment to review medical and psychological history and determine placement. Clients are active participants and work directly with the clinical team to develop a treatment plan. The plan may cover psychiatric evaluation, individual and group therapy, exercise, nutrition, and experiential activities.
  • Progress reviews: Near the end of the first 30 days, the care team evaluates progress during treatment and determines whether continued residential care is needed.

Who you will meet with

  • Clinical team: Clients work with a clinician or nurse during the initial screening process and a physician-led medical and psychiatric team during treatment. Therapists provide support for individual psychotherapy, and group sessions are led by clinicians for small therapy and psychoeducational sessions.
  • Peers and family: Each residence has up to six clients, which creates a small peer community. Loved ones and family members may also be involved when determined to be clinically appropriate.

Typical schedule

  • Daily routine: Weekdays generally begin with waking up and medication at 7 a.m., followed by breakfast at 8 a.m. Three therapy or skills groups run from 9 a.m. to 12:15 p.m. before lunch starts. Afternoons may include clinical group sessions, experiential activities, and practical skills development. Dinner is usually at 5 p.m. and is followed by evening programming. Medication management is at 9 p.m., with lights out at 10:30 p.m. Weekends follow a lighter schedule with morning check-ins, group activities, outings in the community, and a weekly wrap-up group session.
  • Activities and outings: Programs include art therapy, yoga, breathwork, nature activities, music-focused Rock to Recovery sessions, and gym visits. Evening activities may include recreation, games, outings, or 12-Step meetings such as Alcoholics Anonymous. Clients may take part in weekend outings in the community that may include horseback riding, beach trips, and bowling. Family visits are permitted outside therapy and group hours when determined to be appropriate.
  • Therapy and life skills: Clients take part in at least six groups each day that are supplemented by individual therapy. Evidence-based care may include dialectical behavior therapy (DBT), while other groups may focus on positive psychology, values, anger management, boundaries, and impulse control. Life skills and resume building sessions support clients with preparation for everyday responsibilities after treatment.

Living experiences and amenities

  • Rooms and amenities: Clients stay with up to five other clients in private or shared rooms near the beach. Amenities may include ocean views, a pool, and a spa to take advantage of during downtime.
  • Meals and conveniences: An in-house chef prepares daily meals, and the facility offers flexibility for custom food orders from local restaurants. Amazon deliveries may be permitted during the stay. Off-site excursions may include beach trips, horseback riding, bowling, gym visits, and community recovery meetings.

Aftercare

  • Aftercare planning: Clients work with the care team at the beginning of treatment to begin aftercare planning. An assessment is conducted to explore each client's needs and concerns about returning home or moving into another living environment. Options for outside outpatient programs and supportive housing are coordinated and take into account preferences such as location and coed or gender-specific settings.
  • Preparing for the transition: Facility leadership may personally accompany clients on visits to potential supportive housing residences or aftercare programs. Life skills and resume building sessions also help clients prepare to return to everyday responsibilities.

Pre-admissions experience

We conducted a series of pre-admissions calls, the most recent on October 1, 2026, to evaluate response time, transparency, and patient experience.

When we contacted LifeSync Malibu Behavioral Health, we reached an in-house admissions representative right away. They were warm, patient, and easy to talk to, openly explaining costs and daily routines and offering to text more details. They encouraged taking time to decide whether the program felt right, without pressure to commit.

How we research treatment facilities

Across the site, our team has conducted over 1,000 pre-admissions calls to better understand the patient experience, interviewed facility clinical leaders, performed facility background checks, and compared our information against trusted public data sources.

Our research process begins with data from the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA), accrediting bodies including The Joint Commission and CARF, government licensing agencies, and other trusted sources. From there, our team conducts significant original research, including:

- Pre-admissions calls: We speak with admissions staff to get a candid picture of patient experience.

- Background checks: We review complaints from past clients, media reports, actions taken by accrediting bodies, and positive recognition from notable organizations.

- Clinical interviews: We have in-depth conversations with clinical leadership, often lasting up to one hour, that give us a better understanding of clinical care.

- Data partnerships: We ingest and analyze exclusive data that provides information about in-network insurance status, cost, and more.

Research varies by facility. Each facility profile shows which research steps we completed and when each step was last performed. Learn more about our research process and background checks.

How we evaluate treatment facilities

These data help us develop a Trust Score for each facility—a simple letter grade that helps you assess how much confidence to place in a facility based on the information available to us. Trust Score considers accreditation, operating history, notable recognition, and concerns identified during our background check. Our Trust Score is an objective rating that is never influenced by advertiser payment. Learn more about our Trust Score methodology.

We cannot guarantee the quality of treatment at any facility. We cannot independently confirm the accuracy of every data point, and some information may become outdated or change over time. A Trust Score is a starting point, not a guarantee of treatment quality or outcomes. Please contact us if you would like to update or correct facility information.
