Getting started

On the first day of treatment, clients meet with a multidisciplinary team of clinicians that works together to develop a care plan adapted to individual needs. This first visit lasts around three hours and includes intake forms, drug testing, and physical and mental health assessments. Depending on individual circumstances, FDA-approved MAT may be prescribed on day one. A second appointment is set for a week later for clients to meet with a case manager, finalize their personal treatment plan, and schedule follow-up visits. After this, clients visit the center weekly for approximately 1.5-hour clinical sessions.

Medications and counseling

Clients who are experiencing withdrawal from opioids or alcohol may be prescribed MAT to help ease symptoms and cravings. Nurses work with clients to provide medication details, explain the MAT process, provide directions on how medications should be taken, and answer any questions. The ability to start MAT quickly can help clients begin their recovery safely and in a way that feels manageable. Medication management is paired with individual and group therapy sessions. Counselors use evidence-based methods to help clients get to the root of their substance use disorder and give them tools for long-term success.

Inclusive social support

BrightView Health uses a judgement-free, harm-reduction approach and welcomes clients from all walks of life. This can include specialized support for LGBTQ+ clients. Case managers work to connect clients with resources they need, such as local support meetings, food assistance, housing, legal aid, unemployment benefits, insurance, and appointments with local medical or mental health specialists.

Aftercare planning

Each client’s customized treatment plan includes an aftercare component. Clinicians monitor progress during the program, and the plan can be adjusted as needed in real time. Long-term plans can involve continuing individual and group counseling sessions, sober living, or connections to higher care levels, such as residential or intensive outpatient programs (IOP), when needed. Relapse prevention education is provided, including tools to manage triggers and strategies to cope during difficult moments.
