Recovery Centers of America Outpatient Services at Fairfax
Overview
Structured outpatient care for substance use and co-occurring mental health concerns allows clients to return home each evening while receiving the care they need. A partial hospitalization program (PHP) takes place Monday through Friday and combines group therapy, individual sessions, and skill-building for recovery. Clients are active participants in developing their treatment plans. Psychiatric support may be available, as well as medications for addiction treatment (MAT), when determined to be clinically appropriate. Family programming, alumni events, and connections with peer support can aid continued recovery as clients step down to less frequent formal care.

Who is this facility a good fit for?
Best fit if: Adults who need structured daytime substance use treatment but can safely continue living at home; do not require 24/7 residential supervision; may have opioid or alcohol use disorders and may benefit from MAT alongside counseling; may have co-occurring mental health needs; want family involvement and continued peer or alumni connections.
Not a fit if: Adults who cannot safely manage treatment while living at home; those need on-site withdrawal management (detox), residential treatment, or continuous supervision.
What to expect
Developing your care plan
- Assessment and admission: Intake begins with an evaluation of the client's substance use history and current circumstances to help identify the appropriate level of care. Insurance benefits are also verified, and a treatment schedule is established.
- Treatment planning: Clients work actively with their care team to develop an individualized care plan that is based on their needs and goals. Outpatient plans are typically reassessed every 4–6 weeks and guide continued care. Medications for addiction treatment (MAT) may be included depending on substance use history, medical needs, and recovery goals.
Who you will meet with
- Therapists and group leaders: Licensed master’s-level clinicians may provide therapy during clients’ visits. Individual therapists support clients with personal challenges and treatment goals, and group leaders guide discussions and help clients build their recovery skills.
- Assessment and psychiatric support: Assessment staff help to evaluate client needs and guide the appropriate level of care, while psychiatrists may provide evaluations and medication management when determined to be appropriate.
Typical schedule
- Weekly treatment schedule: The PHP usually takes place Monday through Friday from 9:30 a.m.–3 p.m. and includes about 5–6 hours of dedicated programming each day. The schedule may include group therapy, individual counseling, and skill-building that focuses on relapse prevention and managing daily life. Family programs and educational resources may also be available.
- Therapy and medication options: Care addresses substance use and co-occurring mental health concerns through counseling, dialectical behavior therapy (DBT) skills, 12-step recovery support, family involvement, and case management. Medications for addiction treatment (MAT) may include acamprosate, buprenorphine formulations, disulfiram, and naltrexone, depending on each client's clinical needs.
Aftercare
- Transitioning to less frequent care: As a client progresses in recovery, treatment may transition to less frequent outpatient care. This is intended to provide continued clinical care while clients are adapting to managing recovery outside of the program.
- Ongoing recovery support: Clients may have access to an alumni network, attend recovery events, and maintain peer support connections after intensive treatment. Families may also continue to have access to educational opportunities that may support their understanding of recovery.
