What to expect

Developing your care plan

• Detailed assessment: When clients arrive at the facility, they are given a biopsychosocial assessment and discuss their history, including previous treatment background, with a member of the care team.
• Adapted course of treatment: Each client is assigned a primary therapist who develops an individualized care plan for them. This plan addresses client goals and specific needs.

Who you will meet with

• Primary therapist: Works one-on-one with clients to address their substance use recovery needs.
• Recovery coach: Provides guidance throughout the residential stay.
• Doctors and nurses: Medical doctors and 24/7 nursing staff attend to clients’ health and monitor withdrawal management.
• Psychiatrists: Meet with clients who have co-occurring mental health conditions for evaluations and to adjust medications.
• Case managers: Assist with practical needs to help clients return to a stable environment once treatment ends.

Typical schedule

• Structured days: Mornings begin at 9 a.m. After breakfast, the clinical day begins and lasts through dinner, with lunch in between. Group therapy topics include relapse prevention and coping skills clients can use throughout their recovery.
• Evenings: After dinner, clients are given downtime and can explore the campus, relax, and socialize. They can walk nature trails, sit around a campfire, or read and reflect.
• Weekends: Staff may take clients who are on track with their care plans on outings to local attractions. These can include going bowling or visiting the zoo.
• Therapies and holistic approaches: Evidence-based methods include cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), dialectical behavior therapy (DBT), and rational emotive behavioral therapy (REBT). Art, music, and recreational therapies are also offered.

Living experiences and amenities

• Wooded ranch house campus: The facility is a three-story ranch-style house. The surrounding multi-acre grounds have nature trails, a fire pit, a fishing pond, and a seasonal pool.
• Living accommodations: Bedrooms are shared by 2-4 roommates. Beds have memory-foam mattresses, and rooms are equipped with televisions and streaming services.
• Meals: Clients receive three meals per day prepared by an on-site chef. Snacks are available between meal times.
• Recreation and wellness: During downtime, clients can enjoy a gaming area with an Xbox. There is also a gym and half basketball court on-site. A spa and salon are also available for clients to recuperate.
• Family communication: Discovery Point Retreat Ennis does not allow in-person or virtual visitation. Clients can communicate with loved ones by phone when approved by care staff and must sign a Release of Information to do so. Family members can be involved in treatment depending on circumstances and client preferences.

Aftercare

• Step-down care: After graduating from the residential program, clients can step down to a partial hospitalization program (PHP) and then an intensive outpatient program (IOP) at Discovery Point’s outpatient center in Dallas, Texas.
• Alumni support: The Dallas outpatient center also hosts a voluntary alumni program. Members of the alumni community can attend recovery meetings and meet for recreational outings. Clients can also stay connected to recovery coaches.
