What to expect

Developing your care plan

• Individualized plans of care: Treatment plans are based on each teen’s substance use history, mental health needs, and personal circumstances. The results of a clinical assessment are also factored in. Evidence-based therapies, like cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) and trust-based relational intervention (TBRI), are used in conjunction with experiential programming. Detox and MAT are available as appropriate.
• A multidisciplinary team: Medical, psychiatric, therapeutic, and residential support are all part of the treatment team. Optional faith-based interventions are offered.
• Family collaboration: Families are involved in treatment planning. Therapists collaborate directly with parents about goal setting and have on-going discussions about treatment. Family therapy is built in, and parents get regular updates. Note that there is a 7-day “landing period” after admission where family contact with clients is not permitted. This allows teens to settle into their new environment.

Who you will meet with

• Therapists: Teens meet with clinical therapists for various types of treatment — daily group therapy, individual therapy, and family therapy. These therapists are also part of ongoing treatment planning.
• Psychiatric providers: A psychiatric physician oversees all psychiatric care while psychiatric nurse practitioners manage medication as needed during detox or for ongoing management.
• Nurses: Nurses provide 24-hour coverage.
• Residential staff: Staff is on site around the clock for supervision and support.

Typical schedule

• Clinical treatment: Every day includes clinical interventions. Teens attend daily group therapy, where they share their experiences and learn more about their peers. Individual therapy focuses on addressing both substance use and co-occurring mental health conditions. In family therapy, families may learn how to manage the effects of substance use on the family unit as well as improve communication. Medication management is provided as needed.
• Experiential programming: Time outdoors is integrated into the regular schedule rather than being something teens only do on the weekends. Rock climbing, kayaking, surfing, mountain biking, swimming, and hiking are some of the activities offered. Creative therapies, like art, music, and dance, are also integrated into the program.
• Academic support: On-site educational programming and virtual options are available to help teens avoid falling behind in school while in treatment.

Living experiences and amenities

• Purpose-built campus on 14 acres: The expansive campus near Eagle Mountain Lake allows teens to engage with nature in many ways. Outdoor activities may include swimming, hiking, and fishing. There is also a basketball court, outdoor gym, rock climbing wall, and zip line.
• Dorm-style living: Bedrooms sleep two to four girls per room, and teens share bathrooms and living spaces.
• Other amenities: The facility organizes group activities for the girls in treatment, like movie nights, and two therapy dogs can provide comfort and emotional support.

Aftercare

• Transitioning into lower levels of care: The girls residential program is part of a range of services offered by Clearfork Academy. Step-down options within the organization include a PHP, IOP, and virtual IOP.
