Pregnancy and Postpartum-Focused Substance Use Care

ARC Karen’s Place Maternity Center provides substance use treatment for pregnant and postpartum women in a women-only environment. Clients can receive residential care with 24/7 support, with additional step-down levels of care available as needs change. The program is also designed to support early parenting, and mothers are able to live with their babies while in treatment as they build routines and stability.

Medical Stabilization and Whole-Person Support

The facility provides assessment and medical stabilization services to help clients start treatment safely. Services include a physical exam and comprehensive assessments for substance use and mental health needs. The facility also provides screening and testing, including infectious disease testing. For clients who may benefit, the facility provides access to medications for addiction treatment (MAT) as part of care, and it also offers mental health services and integrated primary care support.

Counseling, Trauma Support, and Relapse Prevention Skills

Treatment includes individual and group counseling, with family and couples counseling available. The facility provides therapy approaches focused on building coping skills and reducing relapse risk, including cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), motivational interviewing, contingency management, anger management, trauma-related counseling, relapse prevention planning, and 12-step work. Peer support is also part of the experience, including mentoring, recovery coaching, and self-help group participation.

Parenting, Education, and Work Readiness

Alongside clinical care, the program emphasizes practical skills that can support long-term stability. The facility provides life skills development and educational support, including vocational training and employment counseling. Parenting-focused learning is also part of the program, including neonatal care skills to help mothers feel more prepared for day-to-day caregiving.

Aftercare Planning and Practical Resources

Planning for the next step is part of treatment. The facility provides discharge planning, aftercare/continuing care, and follow-up. Recovery support services can include housing help, assistance with social services, employment support, and overdose education with naloxone training. Transportation assistance is also available, which may help clients who need support getting to and from services.
