Evidence-Based and Experiential Therapies
Core therapies include cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), dialectical behavior therapy (DBT), attachment-based family therapy, and eye movement desensitization and reprocessing (EMDR) for trauma. These are complemented by yoga, meditation, art, and music therapy. Clients also participate in outdoor adventure activities like hiking and ropes courses. This combination provides both structure and creative outlets, enabling young people to process emotions in different ways.
Coordinated Academics
Newport Academy integrates focused schoolwork into daily schedules. This includes tutoring, credit recovery, and executive-function coaching. Educators work alongside therapists to help students close learning gaps, re-engage in learning, and build skills in organization and time management. This process is designed to help students continue progressing toward graduation. These services also prepare youth for success in their home schools, reducing stress for both students and parents.
Emphasis on Family Participation
Parents and caregivers participate in therapy sessions and multi-family groups, designed to help loved ones practice communication strategies and address relationship concerns. Attachment-based family therapy is offered to help rebuild trust and create a safe foundation for adolescents to seek support at home. Parent education workshops also provide guidance on mental health, boundaries, and stress management.
Aftercare Support Planning
Each client leaves with a personalized aftercare plan. Depending on individual needs, this may include step-down care through virtual programs or continued therapy with trusted community providers. Alumni groups, peer mentorship, and family support meetings help sustain progress and prevent relapse. The center also coordinates with schools to ensure smooth academic transitions. This aftercare system allows both teens and families to practice the skills learned in treatment, reinforcing positive changes.
