Trauma-Informed Residential Treatment

Treatment integrates motivational interviewing and cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) with a trauma-informed approach that emphasizes safety, empowerment, and personal choice. Adolescents take part in daily group therapy and meet individually with counselors two to three times each week. Family therapy sessions help parents and caregivers understand their teen’s challenges and reinforce consistent support at home. The program’s focus on self-reflection, communication, and emotional regulation prepares teens for continued progress beyond residential care.

Academic Continuity and Educational Support

During treatment, teens attend on-campus classes through a partnership with the Alexander School District and the Athens Educational Service Center. This accredited academic program allows students to stay current with their schoolwork or work toward completing a GED. Teachers collaborate with each student’s home school to align coursework and ensure smooth re-entry after discharge. Education is treated as an essential part of recovery, helping teens to develop habits that support long-term personal and academic growth.

Life Skills and Recreational Activities

The center encourages healthy routines through hands-on, creative activities and recreation. Teens participate in art, crochet, and gardening projects that build focus and self-esteem while promoting relaxation. The facility’s outdoor spaces include a basketball court and garden area. Common spaces offer movies, DVDs, and streaming for supervised downtime. Sober social events such as park days, pool outings, and holiday celebrations help teens unwind and practice new skills in real-world settings.

Integrated Care and MAT

The program provides care for both substance use disorders and co-occurring mental health conditions. Medications for addiction treatment (MAT) may be prescribed as needed by in-network providers or coordinated through external partners. Teens using MAT prescribed elsewhere are also accepted. Ongoing risk assessments are performed to ensure safety.

Discharge Planning and Family Aftercare

Planning for discharge begins early, with input from the teen, family, and referring professionals. Each aftercare plan is adapted to the adolescent’s home environment and may include recovery coaching, 12-step or community-based meetings, vocational training, or educational support. Case managers stay in communication with referral agencies throughout treatment to ensure smooth coordination. Aftercare services focus on maintaining progress and helping families apply what was learned in treatment.
