Women’s Residential Program for Mothers and Their Children

The women-centered residential program is designed to keep mothers and their children, from newborn through age 5, together during treatment. The program provides 24-hour structure with routines built around safety and rest. Residential care is paired with housing support, family counseling, and transportation assistance, helping women maintain consistency even when childcare, housing, or access to reliable transportation has been difficult. Women can stabilize while staying connected to their children, reducing the disruption that often keeps families from pursuing care.

Trauma-Informed Treatment and Family Support

The program integrates trauma-informed counseling with treatment approaches such as cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), motivational interviewing, and relapse-prevention planning. Trauma-related counseling helps women understand how trauma affects coping, relationships, and substance use patterns. Family counseling offers structured time for mothers to rebuild communication with their children, set shared expectations for safety, and learn new routines that can continue after discharge. Individual and group sessions take place throughout the week, allowing women to participate in both personal healing and family-focused work.

Medications for Addiction Treatment and Mental Health

Medications for addiction treatment (MAT) can be administered as needed to support recovery for women withdrawing from opioids or alcohol. Women can also access medication for mental health conditions. Tobacco-cessation support, including nicotine replacement, is available for women who want to reduce or stop smoking. Integrating medication and counseling allows women to stabilize physically and emotionally, and helps mothers to maintain caregiving responsibilities onsite.

Practical Assistance for Rebuilding Stability

Many women in treatment face housing insecurity, legal involvement, or limited income. The program case management, housing services, and assistance with navigating social service systems such as benefits programs or childcare resources. Mothers can access mentoring and peer support, social skills development, and vocational or educational assistance, including job training programs available through Harbor’s broader vocational services network. These supports help women rebuild financial stability and prepare for independent living with their children after treatment.

Residential and Outpatient Options for Ongoing Care

When ready, women may transition from residential care into outpatient counseling or telehealth services to maintain progress while returning to work, school, or caregiving routines. Outpatient services include individual and group counseling, health education, and continued support for managing both substance use and mental health symptoms. Discharge planning focuses on a practical return home, helping mothers outline safety plans, coordinate follow-up appointments, and organize childcare needs. Regular follow-up contacts and access to ongoing services help women stay connected to care after leaving residential treatment.
