Care for veterans and first responders

Dedicated trauma-informed treatment tracks are provided for veterans and first responders. These pathways are sensitive to lived experiences and resulting symptoms such as stress, depression, anxiety, and post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD). Care can include one-on-one and group therapy, medication management when needed, specialized crisis care, and creative therapies. These programs allow veterans and first responders to heal alongside peers who share and can relate to their lived experiences.

Full continuum of treatment

Glen Oaks Hospital offers a full continuum of step-down mental health and co-occurring substance use care. This includes acute psychiatric stabilization, medical withdrawal management, inpatient treatment, a PHP, and an intensive outpatient program (IOP). Clients can move up or down between treatment levels as their needs change and they progress in their recovery. The IOP has flexible day and evening sessions that clients can schedule around work, family, and education responsibilities. Telehealth options are also available.

Focused treatment for severe mental health conditions

Care is adapted to clients with serious and complex mental health concerns, and for various levels of severity. Inpatient and outpatient programs are designed to treat conditions such as anxiety, depression, PTSD, psychosis, bipolar disorder, borderline personality disorder (BPD), and suicidal ideation. Treatment is also provided for seniors and clients with disabilities, with specialized focus on concerns such as cognitive changes, grief, and isolation. The inpatient program offers a secure environment for stabilization and getting acute symptoms under control, while the outpatient program provides structured treatment for clients who are able to live at home.

PHP with equine therapy and holistic wellness

The center’s PHP offers equine therapy. This involves therapist-guided interactions with horses, designed to build healing nonverbal emotional connections. Other activities include yoga, aromatherapy, and dietitian-led nutrition groups. These are combined with evidence-based methods such as cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) and dialectical behavior therapy (DBT) for a whole-person approach.

Client reviews

Many clients describe caring staff, helpful treatment, and meaningful personal support. Some describe concerns with administrative communication, the facility setting, and individual staff members.

  • Staff & care experience (70% positive): Reviewers often describe nurses, technicians, therapists, and other team members as compassionate, patient, and respectful. A smaller portion of the overall review set describes negative interactions or feeling dismissed by particular staff members. “Glen Oaks is a facility where I felt cared for, respected, and loved.”
  • Support & community (85% positive): Clients describe encouragement from both staff and other patients, and some mention forming meaningful connections during treatment. “Some of the most caring people work here and are patients here.”
  • Treatment quality & outcomes (55% positive): Positive reviews credit group sessions, counseling, medication support, or the overall program with helping clients stabilize or make progress. A smaller share of the full review set raises concerns about psychiatric evaluations, medication decisions, or receiving less therapeutic support than expected. “The group sessions were a tremendous help for me, and the food wasn’t bad either!”
  • Facility & environment: Some clients compliment meals, activities, or aspects of the setting, while a few reviewers note issues with accommodations. “Food was better than most places in town, which was great.”
  • Access & process: A few reviewers describe concerns including communication during intake or treatment and difficulty understanding admission, treatment, or discharge decisions. A few reviewers also describe long intake waits or challenges getting information by phone.
