Residential substance use treatment with on-site withdrawal management (detox) and a strong emphasis on underlying mental health, set in a ranch-style environment. The program has a client-to-staff ratio of one-to-five, allowing for focused attention to each person’s unique needs. Clients participate in one-on-one therapy once a week and meet with master’s-level clinicians twice a week. Intensive process groups are held every day. A holistic mind-body-spirit approach and a weekly recovery theme encourage deep exploration of the many aspects of healing. Once stabilized, clients can use their personal smartphones and laptops during downtime. This facility accepts private insurance, TRICARE, and self pay.

Who is this facility a good fit for?

  • Best fit if: Adults seeking residential substance use treatment; need on-site withdrawal management; wish to address co-occurring mental health concerns; want a ranch-like setting with equine therapy; need to use personal devices during their stay; have private insurance, TRICARE, or can self pay.

  • Not a fit if: Need acute, hospital-level care; want a more city-based location; don’t want to participate in intensive mental health exploration; looking for self-directed or outpatient-only treatment; have Medicaid, or are uninsured and unable to self pay.

What to expect

Developing your care plan

  • First 72 hours: When clients first arrive, staff make sure their basic needs are met quickly: a comfortable place to stay and nutritious meals. Those who need withdrawal management are set up with a medication plan to help alleviate their symptoms.
  • Client collaboration: Intake assessments include a full medical, substance use, and mental health history. Taking all these factors into account, clients and staff work together to make a unique care plan.
  • Evolution based on need: Treatment plans can change as quickly and as often as needed, depending on how clients respond. These are reassessed each week to make sure everything is working well.

Who you will meet with

  • Therapists: Weekly one-on-one therapy and daily intensive group therapy are at the center of the program. For those interested, family therapy and gender-specific therapy sessions are held once a week. Process groups are led by master’s-level clinicians.
  • Doctors and nurses: A full medical team helps clients get through withdrawal management as safely and comfortably as possible. They see to any medications and physical health needs.
  • Psychiatrists: As the program deeply emphasizes helping clients get to the root mental health concerns behind substance use, seeing a psychiatrist is an important part of care.
  • Guest speakers: Specialists from different fields come in to talk to clients. One such professional is a neuroscience coach who introduces grounding and breathwork practices.
  • Case managers: There to help from the beginning, case managers help set clients up for stable daily life for when treatment ends.

“Having someone who has a lot of exposure to not only the medical side, but the psychiatric side, and is able to marry both of those disciplines seamlessly, I think it makes us stand apart and allows us to diagnose people more effectively and find a treatment plan that's best for them.” — Manny Nsien, CEO of Ripple Ranch Recovery

Typical schedule

  • Mornings: After breakfast, clients go to group therapy sessions. Some of the main approaches include CBT, DBT, and trauma-focused EMDR to help dig down to the main factors behind substance use. Clients attend between 25 and 30 hours of group therapy every week.
  • Afternoons: Days involve more therapy sessions (both group and individual), education, and groups focused on topics such as nutrition and trauma.
  • Downtime: After dinner, clients can relax and spend time in quiet reflection or spending time with peers between 7:00 p.m. and 11:00 p.m. After they are medically cleared, clients can use their personal devices during this time.

“I would consider us a zebra among horses in that we look at the chronic substance use disorder disease as a secondary item to underlying mental health issues.” — Manny Nsien, CEO of Ripple Ranch Recovery

Living experiences and amenities

  • Ranch environment: The center sprawls over 20 acres of Texas Hill Country, in a ranch-style arrangement. There are 40 beds, and clients share a room with one, two, or three other people.
  • Downtime activities: When not in therapy, clients can enjoy a swimming pool, a gym, and walking trails outdoors.
  • Yoga, meditation, breathwork, and Tai Chi: As part of the mind-body-spirit approach of the program, clients partake in holistic activities, which can help grow balance and inner calm.
  • Connecting with horses: Equine therapy is offered, allowing for reflective and soothing interactions with horses. This is designed to help clients build emotional awareness.

Aftercare

  • Individually adapted plans: Preparing for life back home starts at the beginning of treatment. Staff can connect clients to practical needs, such as continuing medication management and local support groups (both 12-step and non-12-step), and provide relapse prevention education.
  • Transitions to outpatient care: Ripple Ranch also has an outpatient center, and clients can transfer there after residential care to continue their recovery path through an intensive outpatient program (IOP) or regular outpatient sessions.
  • Alumni events: Weekly meetings are held for alumni to get together. Alumni also gather for community events, keeping them connected to a long-term support system.

Medical Leadership Interview

Interview conducted with Manny Nsien, CEO of Ripple Ranch Recovery, on April 22, 2026 by Start Your Recovery Director of Content, Molly McSweyn.

We interviewed Manny Nsien, CEO of Ripple Ranch Recovery, to better understand the facility’s approaches and treatment methods. Manny was candid about the program’s mind-body-spirit philosophy and how clinicians and other staff work together to help clients regain stability.

“When we start with a client coming into a new environment, it's really important for them to feel safe. So, their immediate needs are typically having a clean bed, good, healthy, nutritious food, and if they're in the detox level of care, getting the medications… to really stabilize them, address anxiety, address some of their post-acute withdrawal symptoms.”

Manny talked in detail about the care team’s focus on taking thorough assessments of clients’ background and needs, and outlined the importance of delving into the underlying mental health concerns behind substance use.
