Overview

Call949-990-6397 MessageMessage Facility WebsiteVisit Website

Intensive, small-group residential mental health care for adults in an upscale private home with trauma-informed therapies. With only six clients per house and a high staff-to-client ratio, clinicians are able to provide dedicated attention to personal needs and goals. Clients stay in gender-separate accommodations, attend one-on-one therapy sessions twice a week, and meet with a psychiatrist and a case manager weekly. Evidence-based therapies are combined with mindfulness, yoga, nutrition, and medication management when appropriate. Weekly group outings are designed to build life skills and connections with peers. This facility accepts private insurance and self-pay. Payment assistance options may be available.

Who is this facility a good fit for?

  • Best fit if: Adults with serious mental health conditions; need 24/7 supervision in a highly structured program; want psychiatric care, medication management, and frequent therapy; want a small residential setting with a small group size; have private insurance or can self-pay (assistance options may be available).

  • Not a fit if: Require acute hospital-level care; unwilling to live on campus in a 24-hour structured setting; need detox or primary substance use disorder treatment; have significant mobility issues; rely on Medi-Cal or Medicare for coverage, or are uninsured and unable to self-pay.

What to expect

Developing your care plan

  • First 24 hours: Treatment starts with a one-hour intake with nursing and medical coordinators to review medical history, allergies, and medications. From the moment they arrive, clients are on “one-on-ones” (accompanied by staff at all times) until a full suicide screening and safety plan are completed.
  • Collaborative goal setting: Once transported to their residential estate, clients sit down with a clinician for a 45-to-60-minute comprehensive assessment to outline their psychiatric history and create goals for the coming weeks. Clients are fully involved in the creation of their care plans.
  • Frequent reassessment: Treatment plans are reviewed and updated regularly with the client's primary therapist. Clients also meet with their psychiatrist once a week and their primary therapist twice a week for one-on-one sessions. Length of stay is determined by clinical progress rather than fixed timelines.

Who you will meet with

  • Primary therapist: The core of the treatment team whom the client interacts with most heavily for their clinical needs. One-on-one therapy takes place twice each week.
  • Clinical case manager: A role designed to help clients manage outside stressors and reintegration. They help with paying bills, resume building, and completing FMLA or EDD paperwork.
  • Psychiatrist: Clients meet with a psychiatrist at least once a week. Mental health medications can be prescribed and adjusted as appropriate.
  • Client Coordinators (CCs): Each house has two CCs available 24 hours a day to assist with medication passes, general household support, and 15-minute safety checks using "Visible Hands" wristbands.
  • In-house care: With a maximum of six clients per house, AMFM is a high-touch environment with full-time staff, including a personal chef.

“At any given time, there is a minimum of four staff in the house... there's always going to be a therapist, a case manager and two CCs around. Not counting facilitators, chefs, all of that.” - Anand Mehta, LMFT, AMFM Executive Director (San Diego)

Typical schedule

  • Daily programming (10 a.m. - 4:30 p.m.): This block is strictly for deep clinical work, featuring three 90-minute group therapy sessions a day, individual therapy sessions twice weekly, and psychiatric appointments weekly.
  • Evenings (5 p.m. - lights out): Downtime is intentional. Clients might attend AA or NA meetings, go for a hike or community walk for physical fitness, or participate in a game night to practice social skills.
  • Intentional meals: A personal chef prepares lunch and dinner, but breakfast is intentionally left for the clients to prepare themselves using stocked ingredients. This acts as functional skill-building practice.
  • Holistic therapies and wellness groups: Clients can participate in yoga, meditation, and fitness groups, as well as nutrition groups led by chefs trained in food as medicine.
  • Weekend trips: Outings are designed to practice life skills, such as a group of housemates collaboratively deciding to go to the movies, buying tickets, and interacting with concessions.

“We have really embraced that every day is a clinical day, whether it's Christmas or Sunday morning. So something is happening every day.” - Anand Mehta, LMFT, AMFM Executive Director (San Diego)

Living experiences and amenities

  • Private homes: Clients live in large residential homes, typically accommodating around six individuals at a time. Clients share bedrooms with twin beds, storage, and personal desk spaces with one roommate.
  • Indoor spaces: The homes feature living rooms with couches, flat-screen TVs, and dedicated game areas.
  • Outdoor areas: Outside, clients can enjoy shaded gazebos and patios designed for relaxation or socializing.
  • Mindfulness and yoga: Homes feature dedicated spaces for mindfulness, complete with yoga mats and blocks. A specialized yoga therapist frequently works with clients.

Aftercare

  • Transition planning: AMFM uses dedicated “Clinical Liaisons” to act as aftercare planners. These liaisons handle the logistics of moving a client to their next step, whether that is a partial hospitalization program (PHP) or an intensive outpatient program (IOP), and they manage the financial and administrative conversations.

Medical Leadership Interview

Interview conducted with Anand Mehta, LMFT, AMFM Executive Director (San Diego) on January 8, 2026 by Start Your Recovery Director of Content, Molly McSweyn.

We interviewed Anand Mehta, LMFT, AMFM Executive Director (San Diego) to better understand how care is structured and who the program is a best fit for. During the conversation, Mehta was direct, transparent, and easy to speak with. He clearly described the structure and intensity of the program without minimizing the level of effort required, emphasizing that treatment is active and highly involved.

Anand was clear about eligibility criteria and shared detailed examples of how daily programming is designed to be active and highly structured.
