Specialized Care for Pregnant and Postpartum Women
The program provides a trauma-informed treatment track for pregnant women struggling with opioid use. As part of the nonprofit Aspell Recovery Center in Jackson, Tennessee, this program was designed to reduce neonatal abstinence syndrome (NAS) and help mothers achieve recovery in a safe, structured environment. Treatment is holistic and family-focused, aiming to support both the mother’s health and the child’s development from the very beginning.
Full Continuum of Supportive Housing and Treatment
The facility offers a step-down continuum of care that begins with residential treatment and continues through outpatient services, three-quarter housing, and independent living. Women start with 24/7 residential care before transitioning to more independent settings, with expectations that include rent contributions, community meetings, and continued therapy. This long-term approach allows clients to rebuild at a pace that supports stability and self-sufficiency.
Trauma-Informed and Evidence-Based Approaches
Treatment includes a range of evidence-based therapies, including cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), motivational interviewing, and 12-step facilitation, alongside trauma-focused counseling. Many participants are navigating complex histories, including experiences with domestic violence, sexual abuse, or homelessness. Peer support, individual and group therapy, and life skills training help residents regain a sense of agency and connection.
Real-World Support for Lasting Recovery
In addition to therapy, the program provides wraparound services to meet practical needs. These include transportation assistance, vocational training, HIV/hepatitis education, naloxone education, and case management. Transitional housing is available as clients move forward, and long-term residents may live with their children in independent housing options.
Medication and Recovery Integration
The program supports women using medications for addiction treatment (MAT), including buprenorphine with or without naloxone, prescribed through outside providers. Clients with co-occurring disorders also receive integrated mental health care, supporting recovery from both substance use and psychiatric conditions like depression, anxiety, and post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD).
A Supportive Community Rooted in Compassion
Many staff members have lived experience with addiction and recovery. The facility emphasizes connection, empathy, and accountability, providing a welcoming environment for women who may have struggled to find care elsewhere. With a mission grounded in community trust and client-centered care, the center creates a path to recovery that prioritizes dignity and hope.
