Family-Focused Residential Treatment

Freedom House is designed for women in recovery who are also parents. This trauma-informed, family-centered program allows mothers to live and receive care with their children, including those under 18, creating a supportive space for family healing. Services include parenting classes, reunification planning, birth-plan guidance, and opportunities for visitation when custody is not yet restored. Small therapy caseloads and individualized support help strengthen family stability throughout recovery.

Integrated Care for Recovery and Wellbeing

Treatment combines counseling with medications for addiction treatment (MAT), such as buprenorphine and naltrexone, to help manage cravings and sustain recovery. Licensed mental health professionals deliver both individual and group therapy while addressing trauma and co-occurring mental health conditions. This integrated approach ensures that both emotional and physical health are supported during pregnancy and early parenting.

Practical Supports and Continuing Connections

Freedom House removes barriers to treatment through case management, transportation assistance, and peer mentoring. Life-skills, nutrition, and vocational classes prepare mothers to return to work or education while maintaining recovery. After completing residential care, graduates can move into transitional housing for up to two years, with continued therapy and childcare options. Alumni coordinators foster long-term connection through peer-led groups and ongoing support.

Environment and Access to Care

Nestled on a private property in Southeastern Kentucky, the facility offers private rooms, shared kitchens, and outdoor gardens that create a calm, family-friendly environment. Grounded in Volunteers of America’s interdenominational ministry of service, the program integrates compassion and purpose into care. Multiple payment options, including Medicaid, government funding, and sliding-fee assistance, make treatment accessible.
