On-Site School and Therapeutic Community

Teens attend a full-day, on-site New York City Department of Education school while in treatment, so they can continue working toward academic goals without pausing care. The program weaves education together with positive peer interactions, an organized work structure, and social activities. This structure helps teens practice healthy routines, show up consistently, and experience school and community life in a setting that supports recovery.

Integrated Counseling, Mental Health, and Medications

An interdisciplinary clinical team provides individual, group, and family counseling, including services for siblings. Treatment draws on evidence-based approaches such as cognitive behavioral strategies, motivational work, relapse prevention, trauma-related counseling, anger management, and domestic and teen-violence groups. On-site nursing and psychiatric care support teens with co-occurring mental health needs, and medications for addiction treatment (MAT) may be offered when clinically indicated. Screening and education related to HIV, hepatitis, and other health conditions are available, along with suicide prevention services.

Skills Training and Family Support

Programming is designed to help teens build the skills and self-esteem needed for a substance-free life. Educational seminars, prevention and health-awareness groups, sobriety maintenance activities, and recreational programs support social skills development and healthier coping. Vocational and life-skills preparation, along with vocational counseling, help teens begin thinking about work, school, and future goals beyond treatment. Families are actively involved through compassionate therapy and support that is tailored to each household’s needs.

Aftercare and Access to Ongoing Care

Recovery support continues after a teen completes residential treatment. The center offers a dedicated aftercare track at Outreach’s Greenpoint, Brooklyn outpatient program, providing counseling for adolescents and their families as they transition back home, to district schools, and to their communities. Case management, help accessing social services, and housing-related support can make it easier for families to navigate practical barriers. The organization offers a sliding fee scale, and no one is turned away from services solely because of inability to pay.
