Empowering Space for Diverse Identities

Founded by Ebony House, Inc., the program carries forward a legacy of serving the African American community while welcoming women of all backgrounds. Treatment is delivered with respect for each woman’s cultural identity, faith traditions, and personal values. This women-only setting provides a sense of safety and solidarity, particularly for those who have faced trauma, intimate partner violence, or stigma.

A Home for Mothers in Recovery

At its heart, this facility is a home for women to heal without being separated from their children. The 10-bed residential program allows mothers with children under the age of 10 to live together during treatment. This family-centered approach reduces the stress of separation, strengthens maternal bonds, and supports healthier outcomes for both mother and child. On-site childcare and parenting support help women better engage in treatment while continuing to nurture their families.

Culturally Competent Care That Recognizes Lived Experience

Women participate in therapies such as cognitive behavioral therapy, motivational interviewing, relapse prevention, trauma-informed counseling, and 12-step facilitation. Culturally responsive programming integrates each woman’s values and lived experience, fostering both emotional healing and practical growth. For those with co-occurring conditions, support includes medication management and counseling for mental health needs, with connections to community-based medical and psychiatric services as appropriate.

Planning A Stable Life Beyond Treatment

Discharge planning and aftercare services are built into treatment from the start, helping women prepare for independence and long-term stability. Supports may include relapse prevention planning, mentorship, and connections to peer recovery groups. Women also receive guidance in securing housing, accessing education, and finding job training or employment opportunities.

A Philosophy of Healing and Hope

Every part of this recovery program reflects its philosophy: recovery must honor the whole person—her culture, her role as a mother, and her future beyond treatment. By combining evidence-based therapies with a nurturing, family-centered environment, Elba House helps women break cycles of addiction, rebuild their lives, and create healthier paths for themselves and their children.
