Trauma-Informed Care
Many clients enter treatment carrying the weight of both substance use and past trauma. The program is designed to treat these challenges together. When needed, clients may be prescribed medications for addiction treatment (MAT) to ease withdrawal and reduce cravings. Alongside medical support, trauma-focused counseling helps address painful experiences that often fuel substance use. Group sessions provide a safe place to share and process emotions, while individual therapy allows clients to work on personal goals with a counselor.
Residential Program with Dedicated Women’s Units
Residential treatment can last up to 120 days, giving clients time to stabilize and focus on recovery. For women, specialized housing units offer a safe, supportive space where gender-specific issues such as domestic violence, trauma, and parenting challenges can be addressed openly. The stability of a 24/7 supervised setting allows clients to step away from stressors in their daily lives and practice new coping strategies.
Evidence-Based Therapies and Peer Support
The center’s therapeutic approach blends proven clinical methods with the strength of peer support. Cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) helps clients change thought patterns that drive harmful behaviors, while motivational interviewing encourages small, achievable steps toward change. Relapse prevention planning gives clients tools to recognize and avoid high-risk situations. Beyond therapy, recovery coaches and peer mentors provide guidance rooted in lived experience.
Aftercare and Case Management
Vocational services offered by staff include job training and counseling, as well as connections to housing assistance when needed. Case managers are available to connect participants to community resources, medical care, and mental health services. Help with obtaining social services can also be provided.
Services for Alumni
The SHAR Alumni Association provides a community for graduates to stay connected after treatment. Alumni can take part in support groups, outreach efforts, and peer mentoring, creating opportunities to give back while strengthening their own recovery. Alumni programs also encourage continued engagement in sober activities, ongoing therapy, and community service.
