Trinity Health Academic and Counseling – Dept of Behavioral Health provides 24/7 inpatient behavioral health care at Livonia Hospital for adults who need a higher level of support during a mental health or substance-related crisis. Care takes place in a medically supervised setting with around-the-clock nursing and monitoring, prioritizing safety and immediate access to clinical support.

Integrated Care for Substance Use and Co-Occurring Mental Health Conditions

Treatment is built to address substance use disorders alongside co-occurring mental health conditions. Services include comprehensive mental health and substance use assessments, psychiatric evaluation, and medication management. The program also provides medications for addiction treatment (MAT) for opioid use disorder and medication support for alcohol use disorder, as well as medications for mental health conditions when indicated.

Therapy That Includes Family and Therapeutic Activities

Inpatient care includes individual and group counseling using approaches such as cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), motivational interviewing, relapse prevention, trauma-related counseling, anger management, and 12-step facilitation. Family therapy may be part of treatment when appropriate. Recreational therapy and supportive activities, including art and music therapy, are also incorporated to help people engage in care while they stabilize.

Medical Screening and Recovery-Focused Practical Supports

Hospital-connected services include medical history and physical exams, tobacco-use screening, and clinical testing such as drug and alcohol screening and infectious disease screenings (including HIV, STD, TB, and hepatitis testing). Recovery services feature self-help groups, peer support or mentoring, recovery coaching, case management, help accessing social services, housing-related services, and employment counseling or training to support next steps after inpatient care.
