Integrated Levels of Care

At its Cape Girardeau campus, Gibson Recovery Center provides a full continuum of services so individuals can begin and progress through treatment without disruption. Around-the-clock medical detox supports safe withdrawal from alcohol, opioids, methamphetamines, and cocaine. Residential care, including a men’s program, offers structure and 24/7 support to build stability, while outpatient tracks such as intensive outpatient (IOP) and partial hospitalization (PHP) provide flexibility for people balancing family, school, or work. Telehealth sessions further expand access to care.

Therapies and Medications That Work Together

Treatment combines evidence-based counseling and medications for addiction treatment (MAT) to address substance use and co-occurring mental health needs. Services include individual, group, family, and couples therapy alongside relapse prevention and trauma-informed counseling. Approaches such as cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), motivational interviewing (MI), the Matrix Model, and moral reconation therapy (MRT) are used as clinically appropriate. MAT options include buprenorphine and naltrexone for opioid use disorder, naltrexone or disulfiram for alcohol use disorder, and nicotine cessation supports.

Practical Supports for Daily Life

Recovery at Gibson extends beyond clinical care, with supports that address housing, transportation, and employment. Clients can access case management, peer mentoring, and job placement through IPS services to build financial stability. Education on coping skills, health, and relationship-building helps prepare individuals for life after treatment. Specialized programming is also available for young adults, women, men, and justice-involved clients, including DUI/DWI services through the Substance Awareness Traffic Offender Program (SATOP).

A Community Legacy

Founded in 1979 as a halfway house, the center has grown into a comprehensive organization serving Southeast Missouri. With more than four decades of service, the facility continues to emphasize inclusive, trauma-informed care that combines medical treatment, counseling, and community resources to support lasting recovery.
