Who is this facility a good fit for?

  • Best fit if: Teens who need age-appropriate treatment; with overlapping mental health and substance use concerns; seeking a small residential treatment program; families who want to be involved in care; families who are concerned about teens falling behind academically while in treatment.

  • Not a fit if: Adults; teens requiring withdrawal management (detox) before residential treatment; seeking affiliated transitional housing.

What to expect

Developing your care plan

  • A comprehensive assessment: Teens undergo a comprehensive evaluation that considers mental health and substance use challenges.
  • Family involvement: Therapists work with parents to establish therapeutic goals and put together a plan of care.
  • Ongoing monitoring: A multidisciplinary care team monitors client progress throughout treatment.
  • Treatment approaches: The clinical approach emphasizes individual, group, and family therapy. Treatment may include various modalities, such as cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) and trauma-specific therapy, alongside experiential approaches and mindfulness-based activities. MAT is also available when clinically appropriate.

Who you will meet with

  • Primary therapist: Each teen works with a primary therapist. Each therapist has a maximum caseload of 10 clients.
  • Parent therapist: Parent therapists work with parents through individual and group sessions as well as email and phone calls.
  • Family advocate: Acts as a liaison between the teen, parents, and therapists. The family advocate also communicates with parents about progress and helps to address practical issues.
  • Activities director: Organizes recreational activities for teens.
  • Discharge planner: The discharge planner helps prepare clients and their families for transitioning out of treatment.
  • Support staff: Care coordinators, team leads, and supervisors provide around-the-clock supervision and support.

Typical schedule

  • Daily clinical treatment: Clients participate in individual therapy, group therapy, and other therapeutic activities. Psychoeducation, art and music therapy, life skills, and relapse prevention may also be included. Holistic activities, such as mindfulness, yoga, and experiential therapy, are also integrated into care.
  • Education continues: Family advocates can coordinate with teens’ current schools to help them continue their current curriculum via distance learning on a tablet or laptop. The facility can provide the technology needed for schoolwork. If the home school cannot support ongoing coursework, teens can enroll in a curriculum available through Artemis.

Living experiences and amenities

  • Small treatment community: The facility treats a maximum of 10 clients at a time. Teens usually share a room with one other person, but larger master-style suites can accommodate up to three teens.
  • Outdoor recreation: Teens have access to outdoor space, including ball courts, hiking, and rock climbing.
  • Family involvement: Parents are supported by a therapist, and a family advocate helps them navigate having a child in treatment and access support for practical challenges.

Aftercare

  • A dedicated discharge planner: A dedicated team member helps with transition planning, including aftercare planning, support meetings, relapse prevention planning, and connections to the alumni community.
  • An internal step-down pathway: Artemis also offers an internal step-down pathway that includes a PHP, an IOP, and regular outpatient treatment.

Pre-admissions experience

We conducted a series of pre-admissions calls, the most recent on September 8, 2026, to evaluate response time, transparency, and patient experience.

When we spoke with a representative from Artemis, they had a matter-of-fact approach that wasn’t warm but wasn’t pushy. They provided highly detailed information about daily schedules, academic options, and care team structure and were transparent about cost.

Client reviews

Many reviewers describe caring staff, meaningful progress, and strong family support. A smaller group raises serious concerns about supervision, safety practices, communication, and consistency between admissions expectations and the residential experience.

  • Staff & care experience (90% positive): Reviewers often describe staff as patient, compassionate, and attentive, with several families saying they felt heard and supported. Some reviewers report inconsistent communication and concerns about staffing or professionalism. "The staff genuinely cared about my wellbeing and always made me feel supported and understood."
  • Treatment quality & outcomes (85% positive): Many clients and families report improvements in coping skills, emotional regulation, confidence, and relationships. A few say the program did not meet their teen’s needs or raised concerns about medication management and treatment structure. "They always encouraged me to keep pushing forward."
  • Support & community (90% positive): Families frequently mention feeling included in care, while clients describe positive connections with staff, peers, and structured activities. Some suggest family communication and visitation practices could be more consistent. "Through family therapy, daily phone calls, and visits, I made significant improvements in my relationship with my parents."
  • Facility & environment (75% positive): Positive reviews describe a structured setting with recreation and well-maintained living spaces. Negative reviews raise concerns about supervision, elopement incidents, and residential arrangements.
  • Access & process (80% positive): Several families describe admissions and ongoing communication as helpful and reassuring. Others report concerns about discharge planning, responsiveness after incidents, visitation communication, and differences between expectations set during admissions and their later experience.
