Short-Term Residential Care for Crisis Stabilization

The center provides a safe, structured setting for adults facing acute mental health or substance use crises. This short-term, 24/7 residential program helps stabilize individuals who need intensive support but do not require hospitalization. The center offers rapid access to care, often within hours, for voluntary clients ages 18 and older. Treatment typically lasts several days to a few weeks, as needed, and focuses on achieving emotional balance, restoring safety, and building a plan for continued recovery after discharge.

Evidence-Based, Recovery-Focused Treatment

Each client begins with a comprehensive assessment and psychiatric evaluation to guide an individualized care plan. Treatment combines evidence-based approaches such as cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), relapse prevention, and trauma-informed counseling. Licensed clinicians and nurses provide round-the-clock support, focusing on crisis resolution and developing healthy coping strategies. Clients participate in both individual and group sessions covering topics like managing stress, maintaining wellness, and setting recovery goals. Staff work to ensure that clients receive the therapeutic and medical support needed to stabilize as quickly as possible.

Co-Occurring Mental Health Care and MAT

The center specializes in helping adults with co-occurring substance use and mental health disorders. When appropriate, medications for addiction treatment (MAT) are prescribed to help ease withdrawal and reduce cravings. These are monitored by medical professionals. The program also includes medication for mental health conditions to support overall well-being. Staff work closely with clients to educate them about their medications and provide strategies to prevent relapse. This integrated, whole-person approach ensures that both the physical and emotional aspects of recovery are addressed.

Building Stability and Support Beyond Treatment

From the start of treatment, staff collaborate with each client to prepare for life after discharge. Every treatment plan includes an adapted aftercare strategy that may involve outpatient counseling, recovery coaching, self-help or peer support groups, and links to community programs. The CSU partners with Providence Community Health Centers for primary care follow-up and Anchor Recovery Community Center for peer-led support. Clients also receive guidance on housing and social services when needed.
