Long-Term Residential Care for Adults In Early Recovery

CASPAR House I provides a six- to nine-month residential program for adults 18 and older who have completed detox or are not at risk for withdrawal. The program supports early recovery by helping clients establish structure, strengthen routines, and build a foundation for long-term substance-free living. Daily schedules combine counseling, group work, peer support, and practical responsibilities, giving clients time and space to stabilize, practice new skills, and prepare for a transition to permanent sober housing.

Community-Based Environment

CASPAR House I is part of a long-standing community-based program within Bay Cove Human Services. Other initiatives include outreach teams, emergency services, and multiple residential programs across Cambridge and Somerville. This history shapes a harm-reduction-informed, nonjudgmental environment focused on dignity and practical support. Adults entering the program encounter a setting grounded in local community care, designed to meet people where they are in their recovery and help them re-establish stability at a pace that aligns with their needs.

Evidence-Based Care for Substance Use And Mental Health

The program offers evidence-based treatment for substance use disorders alongside co-occurring mental health needs. Adults engage in cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), motivational interviewing, Matrix Model programming, relapse prevention, anger management, trauma-related counseling, and 12-step work. Specialized groups are available for veterans, active-duty military, people involved in the criminal justice system, adults with co-occurring pain and substance use, individuals with HIV or AIDS, and adults who have experienced trauma, sexual abuse, or intimate partner violence.

Case Management and Peer Support

Case managers can assist clients with benefits, medical and behavioral health connections, and housing applications. Employment counseling, job training, and vocational or educational supports — including GED preparation — help clients rebuild financial footing and pursue stable work. Life-skills services focus on communication, routines, decision-making, and managing stress. Peer support, mentoring, self-help groups, and recovery coaching encourage clients to find sober networks that can continue after discharge.
