AdCare - Rhode Island
Overview
Residential substance use and co-occurring mental health treatment with specialized support for veterans, first responders, and LGBTQIA+ clients. Medical withdrawal management (detox) is offered as a first step. Clients participate in five to seven hours of group therapy each day, meet one-on-one with counselors, and are introduced to 12-Step recovery principles. Evidence-based approaches are combined with expressive art and music therapy. Staff can arrange transportation for clients who live within three hours of the facility so they don’t have to worry about how to get to treatment. AdCare Rhode Island accepts private insurance, Medicaid, Medicare, TRICARE, state-funded insurance, and self-pay.

Frequent Groups and 12-Step Engagement
Once clients are through withdrawal management (detox) and stabilized, they can start regular residential treatment. This consists of highly structured routines, including five to seven hours of group therapy each day, as well as individual counseling. Groups include evidence-based approaches like cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) and trauma-based counseling, as well as wellness activities like art and music therapy. Clients are also introduced to 12-Step principles and become part of a mutually supportive peer community. Those with co-occurring mental health needs receive specialized therapy and psychiatric support.
Dedicated Care for Veterans and First Responders
Specialized treatment plans are created for veterans and first responders, including active-duty military, firefighters, paramedics, police officers, and correctional officers. Clients receive therapy adapted for trauma, grief, and stressors specific to their work and life experiences. They can also recover alongside peers who have been in similar circumstances. AdCare can coordinate with local VA resources to make sure veterans receive ongoing support.
Step-Down and Aftercare Planning
Discharge planning starts on the first day of treatment, to make sure clients are working toward their goals and are set up for success once they leave. After residential care, clients can be connected to outpatient programs within the AdCare network. Staff can also set clients up with community resources such as local 12-step meetings. An alumni program is offered to help keep clients connected to long-term peer support.
Family Engagement and Post-Treatment Security
Optional family therapy is provided to help loved ones heal together. Every month, a Family Informational Program is held to provide education on addiction and how family members can help support recovery. Understanding that recovery is an ongoing process, AdCare offers a “90-day promise.” This allows clients who’ve completed a 90-day program and experience relapse to return to treatment for 30 more days.
Pre-Admissions Experience
We conducted a series of pre-admissions calls, the most recent on April 16, 2026, to evaluate response time, transparency, and patient experience.
When we reached out to AdCare Rhode Island, the admissions team was helpful and responsive. They walked us through basic scheduling and specialized programs for veterans and first responders. The conversation felt transparent, and the admissions representative readily answered questions and provided cost details.
