Who is this facility a good fit for?
Best fit if: Teens ages 12–17 who need residential psychiatric treatment; need a higher level of supervision than traditional residential programs provide; require intensive mental health treatment with integrated care for substance use; have families who want to stay involved through family therapy and regular communication; and want to continue their education while in treatment.
Not a fit if: Adults or adolescents over age 17; families seeking a luxury or resort-style experience; or individuals whose primary goal is addiction treatment without addressing significant mental health needs.
What to expect
Developing your care plan
- Admission: The admission process includes a parent interview, teen assessment, and clinical review. All of this informs care planning.
- Personalized treatment planning: Care plans are structured around each client’s age, diagnosis, level of care, psychiatric needs, and educational needs.
- A harm-reduction model: Rather than focusing on abstinence only, this program focuses on reducing harm by providing non-judgmental care and empowering clients. The goal is to meet teens where they are.
- Trauma-informed care: Addressing trauma is a foundation of treatment planning. Rather than addressing individual behaviors, treating underlying trauma can help get to the root of behavior challenges.
Who you will meet with
- Psychiatrists: Psychiatrists evaluate clients, diagnose mental health conditions, contribute to care planning, and manage psychiatric medications.
- Board-certified physicians: Medical doctors provide ongoing treatment, medical care, and medication management for physical health conditions.
- Registered nurses: Nurses provide monitoring and support for clients around the clock.
- Licensed therapists: Therapists contribute to care planning and provide individual, group, and family therapy. Each family is assigned a therapist within 24 hours of admission who serves as its primary point of contact throughout the teen's stay. Each therapist typically works with about eight clients, depending on the number of teens currently enrolled in the program.
- Academic staff: Academic staff runs the education program, helping teens continue with their education while in treatment.
- Dietary staff: Dietary staff helps support physical health by providing balanced meals.
Typical schedule
- Morning: Teens have a structured morning routine. They attend approximately five to six hours of academic classes. School is a central part of daily life.
- Daytime: After classes, clients move to individual and group therapy. Family therapy may also be held during this time when appropriate. Psychiatric treatment and medication management are also scheduled during the daytime hours.
- Evening: Evenings offer provide a break from the structured routine of the daytime hours. Teens get personal time and have opportunities to interact with their peers.
- Experiential programming: Teens participate in experiential therapies throughout the week. These include music therapy, art therapy, recreational therapy, meditation, and mindfulness.
Living experiences and amenities
- Residential psychiatric campus designed for safety: The state-of-the-art campus provides a comfortable, secure, teen-focused environment. Safety is a top priority. Dorm rooms are ligature resistant and designed to reduce the risk of self-harm. Clients are under 24-hour supervision in a locked setting, and on-site stabilization resources are available.
- Structured meals: Meals are planned to be teen friendly. Multiple dietary accommodations are available, too, including gluten-free, kosher, vegan, and vegetarian options. Allergy accommodations can also be provided.
- Family involvement: Family is highly involved in treatment and care planning. In addition to family therapy sessions, family visitation is available seven days a week. Teens can also communicate with family members via phone and video calls. Therapeutic passes may be available when appropriate. Families also receive regular updates from their assigned therapist starting shortly after admission.
- Educational support: Academics are a significant part of treatment. Teens attend classes each day through the facility's accredited private school.
Aftercare
- Individualized planning: Personalized aftercare plans include referrals for ongoing therapy and support groups aimed at helping families prepare for their teens to return home.
- Follow-up services: Continued check-ins after discharge help families adjust and receive additional support when needed.
- Alumni community: An alumni community helps teens and families maintain positive connections and get peer support.
