Adolescent Residential Care Designed for Teens With Co-Occurring Needs

Rimrock Trails Treatment Services – Prineville Residential offers 24-hour, structured care for adolescents ages 12–17 who are navigating substance use alongside mental health challenges. Located on a dedicated residential campus in Prineville, the program is designed to give teens distance from negative influences while they stabilize, establish healthier routines, and begin building skills they can carry back into daily life.

Collaborative Problem Solving as a Core Treatment Model

One of the program’s defining features is its full implementation of Collaborative Problem Solving (CPS), a strengths-based, trauma-informed approach that understands challenging behavior as a result of lagging skills. Instead of relying on punishment or compliance-based systems, CPS focuses on teaching problem-solving, emotional regulation, and communication, helping teens and caregivers work together to improve behavior and repair relationships.

Integrated Support For Substance Use and Mental Health

Treatment brings together substance use counseling and mental health care in a coordinated, integrated model. Services include cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), motivational interviewing, trauma-related counseling, relapse prevention, and anger management. Care is delivered by clinically trained mental health therapists and certified addiction counselors who work as a team to address both substance use and co-occurring mental health needs at the same time.

On-Site Academics and Experiential Skill Building

Teens can continue their education through an on-site learning center that supports academic engagement and credit recovery during treatment. The campus also incorporates experiential programming such as equine therapy, a low ropes course, and a climbing wall. These activities are used intentionally to support confidence-building, teamwork, and emotional regulation, offering hands-on ways for teens to practice skills learned in therapy.

Family Engagement and Planning for Continued Care

Family involvement is a central part of the residential program, with family counseling and active participation encouraged throughout treatment. Length of stay varies based on individual needs and progress. Discharge planning begins early and may include coordination with outpatient services, case management, and certified recovery mentors, helping teens and families prepare for ongoing support and continuity of care after residential treatment ends.
